Taking a stroll in a small Midwestern town, Reacher passes by a pawn shop. He sees a 2005 West Point ring in the window. It’s tiny; a gift a woman gave herself for graduating from the military academy. Reacher is also a West Point graduate and knows what that woman must have gone through to earn the ring. So why would she part with it?

Reacher decides to find her. He follows the ring's trail step by step, on a path marked by criminals that leads him west. Like Bigfoot emerging from the forest, he reaches the distant and sparsely populated areas of Wyoming. All he wants is to find the ring's owner. If he finds that the woman is okay, he will leave her in peace and move on. But if she’s not okay, then woe to anyone who stands in his way.
