Seasonic computer power supply. It is certified with 80 Plus Platinum, which pertains to its efficiency relative to its nominal power in Watts.
This specific certification is for high-performance computer power supplies with high consumption or companies with many computers where the benefit works cumulatively. It is full modular, meaning it has fully detachable cables, allowing you to use only the ones you need, offering a more organized setup with better aesthetic results and airflow. It provides protection from short circuits, protection of connected devices from excessive current, protection of connected devices from excessive voltage, protection of connected devices from low voltage, protection to prevent exceeding its nominal power, and protection from excessive temperature. Compatible with ATX computer case.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
The evaluation concerns the Seasonic Prime PX 750W Full Modular 80 Plus Platinum.
I replaced a "CoolerMaster MWE 650 Bronze V2 650W" (which will be used in another system) because I needed a slightly higher wattage margin and a somewhat higher quality and flexible power supply based on my requirements and future upgrades. I chose this specific model because of the good price at which I found it (128€) compared to its good rating in the reliable Cybenetics database.
The power supply comes with good labeling for "what connects where".
The cables are flat (except for the 24-pin) and the number of cables is satisfactory. Although the cables are not sleeved, the average beginner user will not be particularly bothered.
It also comes with a good number of cable ties and adhesive tapes. Personally, in my case (CoolerMaster NR600), I easily organized the cables without using cable ties.
The packaging also includes a typical 24-pin connector (tester) for a quick and standard test of the PSU before connecting it to the system.
Like most PSUs on the market at the moment, it does not have 12VHPWR connectors and requires the purchase of an additional adapter, either through Seasonic (after consultation) or through specialized stores.
In a typical test I performed before connecting it to the PC, in fan mode, the fan motor made a typical noise of a medium-quality fan motor, but relatively low in dB (in no way is it at the level of Noctua or other companies that produce their own high-quality fans). However, when placed in a silent system, it was "masked" and the bad profile of this low noise motor was somewhat covered. In hybrid mode, it was silent even outside the computer case.
After 2-3 weeks of use, the first differences I noticed in my system (always compared to the previous PSU I was using) are as follows:
+ All subsystems have a lower temperature by 1-2°C.
+ The temperature fluctuations of the processor that are recorded are significantly smaller.
+ The processor synchronizes at slightly higher frequencies.
+ The system restarts faster by 4-5 seconds.
The first experience with this specific power supply is that it has a very high-quality construction with detachable cables. Now it has not been tested under full load. Waiting for the new graphics card and an update of the evaluation will follow.
