The Smart Connect feature is quite... smart and convenient (single SSID on 2.4/5GHz simultaneously). Airtime Fairness is also useful. Unlike previous TP-Link routers, it allows for a relatively long admin password.
Stable and reliable: it does what it's supposed to do, and does it well.
I have had it for a week and the difference in speed from the Vodafone router is chaotic! Speed increase of at least 40%. I don't have an opinion on signal strength as the house is small and I never had a problem. Also, the smart connect function that combines the two frequencies into one network has been a lifesaver: until now, I had to connect my PC to the 2.4 frequency in order to connect to the printer or TV that don't work on the 5. Now I have one network and the router decides which frequency to give to each device. Judging by the speeds, it does it correctly.
Attention to people who don't know that the modem and the router are not the same thing. I fell for it too and it stayed with me. It is meant to be connected after the modem and boost the signal. It doesn't connect to the line. If you have a problem with the modem, it doesn't do that. To someone I gave it to, they told me it works perfectly as a WiFi signal booster.
Unbelievable as both a router and an access point, speeds are incredible, stability is unbelievable, and the range is amazing. The gigabit ports are another positive. It easily handles heavy loads and operates very smoothly.
The only flaw is its Range, which, despite being much higher than other routers, I expected it to be slightly better. In a maisonette, it doesn't reach well on the entire upper floor.
I got it to pair with the tp-link re220 repeaters in order to enable onemesh in my house. The result is almost perfect! The only downside is that it needs to be in Router mode for onemesh to work, as it is not supported in AP mode.
It's simply wonderful. I've tried routers and routers, this one clicked for me. It's very easy to set up for someone who doesn't know through the application, it's very stable, nice speeds, and most importantly, it has the new WPA3 security standard (not that it makes any difference, I just liked it). Beautiful in design and mainly it gives you one SSID for both bands so you don't have to constantly change it yourself. In terms of range, it's like a regular router, nothing amazing (not like the provider's routers that are terrible). If you want something economical, sturdy, and reliable, then don't even think about it.
Do not throw away your money on cheap solutions with questionable results. With just 55€, I have a solution for all the problems one can imagine. For example, on a 100Mbps line with AR functionality, I have over 75Mbps wireless throughout the entire house.
I put it behind the OTE speedport Plus, which I set to make a PPPoE connection so that it gets its own IP from the provider. This way, all the information is routed through the router, and I only use the OTE router for telephone. I combined it with an Extender from the same company, and now it provides high speed throughout the house. I also made some customizations to fit my needs and solved my problems
Replaced a Xiaomi Mi 4A, which frequently froze with three wifi users. With the C80, in the few days we've been using it, we haven't encountered any such problem. Coverage is even better than Xiaomi's, satisfactory for a large and elongated house (one floor). Purchased on sale for 50 euros, I think it's definitely worth the money. The downside is that it doesn't have a USB port to share a printer, for example, but for a home where printer usage is occasional, it doesn't matter. If I had taken it to the office, anyway, almost all printers nowadays have at least ethernet.
At 69.90 euros, it is a very good value for money purchase. It is not worth more. The positive aspect is that if you are within the signal range, then you will not have a problem since the coverage is stable, but not something amazing.
- The firmware, if the router is connected to the internet, is very easy to upgrade and it has the smart connect feature that leaves only one SSID for the two bands, 2.4GHz and 5 GHz, and automatically uses whichever is stronger. When making changes in the menu and when pressing save, it takes a little time for the changes to take effect and it does not always require a reboot like older machines.
- It is compatible with TP link ID and one can manage it with the tether app and make changes even outside the house, etc.
It is worth it at 69.90€, up to that point!!!
I will not lie, I do not feel like a router, so we are talking about the review of a very simple user.
I got it to put it in front of the little box that the ISP gives me, even though my synchronization speed is around 50, I had issues with both the speed in wifi and the coverage.
The setup was done through the mobile application, super easy.
Enabling the automatic switch between 2.4-5ghz behind the same ssid and so far it works exceptionally well, in the area where I have it, I am always connected to the 5ghz, in the bedroom (2 walls) it switches to 2.4ghz.
The speed in the wider area is 47-48 Mbps (with the ISP's router I was getting 30-35 Mbps) while the coverage has significantly improved (in the bedroom, I used to get around 10-15 Mbps, now it's around 27 Mbps).
For the 70€ that I got it from a big retailer, I consider it a very good offer. I haven't dealt with the guest network/QoS, so I don't have an opinion.
Interesting features are also the programming of reboot or turning off the wifi.
Quite a good router, fast and stable. The signal range is good, not something impressive, within the expected limits without surprising you with something more. I found two drawbacks, one is with the modem connection in bridge mode, which is relatively difficult, it does not easily obtain an IP and requires several tricks that someone who is not knowledgeable will struggle with. The second drawback is related to parental control, which does not allow you to block specific names that may contain pages, for example, you can only block domains like YouTube and prevent the YouTube page from opening.
Update 1/12/20
After a firmware update, the devices, although all have internet, the apps on two smart TVs, Samsung and LG, do not work as if something is blocking them. Tplink doesn't know anything, I didn't get any help. I tried an old router and they work fine, but when I use this one, they don't work.
With all this, I am disappointed with the router.
PS: Tplink states on their website that if you download a firmware update from a tplink page that is not from the country of origin of the device, you lose the warranty of the device. It's tragic. They allow you to install their own firmware, but they cancel the warranty.
