Description
A simple yet effective story for understanding the uniqueness of children on the autism spectrum. Zane's journey of self-discovery, a young zebra with autism, who worries about how others perceive his "special" stripe and learns with the help of his mother to be proud of every unique characteristic. Includes a Reading Guide, with additional information on autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and a Note for parents and educators with advice on support structures. Foreword by Alison Singer, president of the Autism Science Foundation. A book by the American Psychological Association (APA). Book awards: Gold Medal Mom’s Choice Awards. What they said about the book: It teaches us to accept not only who we are but also that the people around us are unique, thanks to their amazing colorful stripes. –Stan Lee, Chairman emeritus of Marvel Comics. Rudolph and Royer shed light on the challenges faced by a child with autism. Beyond that, they show us how unique and tender these children are. Zane is a hero, like every child facing the issue of autism, but his mother is also a role model, proving that with a lot of love, anything is possible. –Russell Simmons, Philanthropist and founder of Def Jam Recordings. Shaina Rudolph has been working as an educator for 12 years in various socio-economic environments. She strives to support every student to reach their full potential while working as a reading specialist with children with learning differences in the greater Los Angeles area. Danielle Royer loves teaching young children and has been inspired by her younger siblings who have learning differences, considering it very important for all children to feel comfortable with who they are. She teaches in the Santa Monica area.

Reviews
A wonderful book about autism that provokes thoughts about diversity in general... After reading it with my child, we discussed children with motor difficulties, autism, Down syndrome, etc. He liked it a lot, even though he felt uncomfortable and awkward at first. But it helped him see things differently and appreciate children with special needs from every perspective.
