Levenhuk Skyline Travel 80

Levenhuk Skyline Travel 80 mm

The telescope Levenhuk Skyline Travel 80 is a refractor telescope with coated optics. It is suitable for observing our solar system and for terrestrial observations. It is a good choice for those taking their first steps in Astronomy. Its operation is so simple that even a child can handle it with ease.

The Levenhuk Skyline Travel 80 telescope is excellent for observing the Moon and the major planets of our solar system. You could also get a glimpse of deep-sky objects, galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. It is recommended that observations be made away from city light pollution, especially those of deep-sky objects. The telescope is easily transported on trips, as it is lightweight and compact. It comes with a carrying and storage bag, which is large enough to hold, in addition to the optical tube, a mount, a tripod, and other optical elements.

The package includes eyepieces, a 3x Barlow lens, and a diagonal mirror. By combining the Barlow lens with the 9 mm eyepiece, the telescope provides a magnification of 132x. This allows you to observe the craters of the Moon, Saturn, Mars, and atmospheric phenomena on Jupiter in detail. Additionally, the telescope can replace a terrestrial spotting scope, as it delivers undistorted images.

Note that the altazimuth mount of the telescope is very easy to handle. The tripod is made of aluminum and its legs adjust to the desired height. There is also an accessory tray. The optical tube has a small compass, which helps with quick orientation on the ground as well as locating celestial objects.

An altazimuth mount is the simplest type of telescope mount. Its name is a combination of the words "altitude" and "azimuth". This type of mount performs up and down (altitude) and left and right (azimuth) movements.

The telescope is very good for its price. With the little bag they provide, you can really have it with you everywhere and it is very easy to set up, while the tripod is very stable. However, the detector is very difficult to handle and focus, which makes your work quite difficult. Finally, when you try to make micro adjustments to see an object better, if you move the telescope even a little, you can lose it and good luck finding it again.

Overall, it is very powerful and you can see very clearly up to Saturn/Jupiter

I bought it for 199 € at the end of July 2022. The tripod is quite stable, but the telescope's support base is flexible and wobbly no matter what you do.
What is completely unacceptable is the "explorer". It constantly dances. It doesn't have the support base that the manual claims. There is no way to align it with the 20mm eyepiece. As for the stronger one (12.5mm), I won't even discuss it. It has a front cover that takes a cap. As soon as you put the cap on, the cover slips off and that's it, you can't put the cap back on.
With a lot of effort, you focus with the weak eyepiece. You lock it and change the lens. If you can figure out what you were seeing before, you win the lottery. After a long time (terrestrial view), you try to stabilize it on the subject. If you don't breathe, don't move, don't touch it, it stays still where you want it. If you try to change its angle a little to find your subject, good luck. If you want to focus, you go around in circles.
Now I'm making my own base for the explorer. Later, I will make one for the telescope. Maybe I'll be able to see Saturn. Finally, stay away from misleading stores...
