As soon as the Persians arrived at Marathon,
they saw mountains in front of them, while to their right
a swamp covered a large area.

What made the two generals happy, however,
was the plain.
"The best place for our cavalry to move,"
whispered Datis,
and Artaphernes smiled.

The news quickly reached Athens.
The Athenian general Miltiades knew that,
if they wanted to defeat the Persians, they had to
face them at Marathon.
The great battle would soon begin...
