    I am not a professional, but I think it evenly distributes the coffee (as shown in the photo) and helps with proper extraction afterwards. You can adjust the depth at which you want it to enter the filter. It is very easy, with just a few turns it distributes and levels the coffee.

    Update: Coffee beans are inserted between the rings, wedged, and it is impossible to unscrew them anymore to change the depth setting.

    Heavy and sturdy. It evenly distributes the coffee inside the filter and helps with proper tamping and extraction afterwards. It consists of two pieces that screw together, allowing the depth to be adjusted for the filter. One or two rotations and the coffee is ready. See the photos I uploaded for the before and after of the coffee inside the filter to understand the difference. These tools are quite expensive, but they have a reason for existing.
