Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance takes place three years after the Guns of the Patriots. War is no longer a business for the PMCs, or at least that's what people say.

However, the new Cyborg technology leaking from the USA disrupts the balance and violence tears the fragile peace apart once again. The Cyborg soldier Raiden must face his most powerful enemy yet.

Attacks from the Desperado Enforcements' army of cyborgs provoke the confrontation, and during the battle, Raiden loses his left eye and left hand.

• Three years have passed since the collapse of the Patriots' system, which secretly controlled the global balance of power from the shadows. However, peace remains elusive.
• The spread of cyborg technology has caused instability and conflict as those in control of the trade gain more and more power.
• The large "Private Armies," or PMCs, that were supported and controlled by the Patriots have collapsed, giving way to countless rogue units originating from larger organizations.

• With renewed armor and stronger Cyborg parts, Raiden launches attacks into enemy territories to fight Desperado and avenge his honor.
• Desperado has taken control of Abkhazia. Raiden's company, Maverick, undertakes a mission from Russia to reclaim the country.
• These rebel PMCs, using Cyborg technology, are becoming increasingly subversive, altering politics and power at will.
