Finally, a truly compact and reliable electronic arm blood pressure monitor!
Advantages:
1) It is one of the few clinically certified electronic blood pressure monitors in such a slim size. Not just with a general CE certification, nor just because the brand is well-known. It is classified in the 5-star category in all tests, by independent bodies, while the most well-known ones are classified as 4-star.
2) No cables or tubes during measurements.
3) It fits comfortably through a sleeve or generally wide sleeve, if you want to use it as a 24-hour blood pressure holter (by manually pressing the measurement button. It does not only measure at predetermined time intervals).
3) It charges with a micro USB, from your mobile charger, so the process with traditional batteries and their problems is over.
4) Once initially set up with the app and connected to the smartphone, it becomes very user-friendly.
5) Blood pressure measurement time ~20s.
6) It stores 200 measurements in the device's memory (without the smartphone), for quick review with the press of a single button (M).
7) There is the possibility of managing measurements (deletion, etc.) through the app. If you want a separate history, for example, for each member of a family, then as many different accounts as the family members need to be created (for free) and before each measurement, a connection to the corresponding account needs to be made.
8) The app has useful statistical graphs of measurement history for each account/user.
9) Measurement results can be exported in a user-friendly format such as PDF, CSV, XLS, for evaluation by a doctor, file, etc., for each user separately.
10) The company responds quickly to inquiries, in less than 12 hours. Starting communication directly through the app and then via email.
11) Includes an elegant and slim carrying case.
12) Update 2023-01-23: The new iHealth app incorporates the automatic triple measurement method, in order to draw even safer conclusions (the old app is now called iHealth Legacy).
Disadvantages:
1) It does not measure pressure "as soon as you take it out of the box". It requires preparation.
You need to create an account through the manufacturer's smartphone app. Once you complete this process, it can take measurements without the smartphone and update the statistics of the app on the smartphone whenever you want.
2) On some old smartphones (e.g. <2017), the application "struggles" and throws various errors. Usually, uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixes them. The measurements are not lost. They are in the cloud and are downloaded again as soon as you log in to your account.
3) Update 2023-01-23: It can be connected to only one smartphone at a time (1:1). It does not have the ability to connect simultaneously to 2 or more, so if a user wants to take a measurement through their own account on their smartphone, the blood pressure monitor must not be connected to another user's smartphone at that time. Probably a negligible detail for 90% of its use.
In conclusion:
The usability it offers, combined with truly reliable measurements, makes it literally an excellent product. The advantage of its extremely compact slim design outweighs any initial inconvenience in preparing the device.
I have tried many electronic blood pressure monitors, expensive branded and non-branded ones, for the arm and wrist. Until the BP5(S), everything disappointed me in measurements when following consecutive measurements with a classic analog Japanese-made sphygmomanometer. Especially for the wrist, it is really a matter of luck to align the small sensor in the narrow artery of the wrist in order to get a reliable measurement even from an expensive certified sphygmomanometer.
The choice of the BP5S was made after months of extensive research among exclusively clinically certified sphygmomanometers to find the best among the best, as even half a unit of deviation can lead to unnecessary treatment. It has been extensively tested and the continuous series of reliable measurements is impressive.
This evaluation may seem a bit lengthy, but it includes details of a high-end product that are not mentioned anywhere, and if someone who is not familiar with smartphones purchases it, they will understandably get annoyed.
However, it remains convenient for the elderly, as long as someone with sufficient understanding of smartphones prepares it for them, as the elderly will be able to measure their own blood pressure easily and reliably, and children can store their measurement history on their smartphones (e.g. during a weekly visit) to have a complete picture of their loved ones' health status.
Usage details: During the "Sync" of the app, the blood pressure measurements are temporarily transferred to the mobile app. After pressing "Upload All Readings" (or one by one), the measurements will permanently remain in the app and will be deleted from the device. As long as you see a blue arrow at the end of each measurement, it will be permanent in the sphygmomanometer and temporary in the app (and will remain in the app until you close it). After uploading, the arrow becomes a faint outline at the beginning of the measurement.
