I got it on sale for €155 from Germany (+ shipping) and it is the ultimate vlm. It is really fast for an external drive. It was formatted to NTFS (exFat from the box).
In terms of temperatures, it reaches 50++ degrees under load (it even reached 57C). But don't worry. When asked about it, WD replied: ".... Please allow me to inform you that non-operating temperature can be up to 70°C before reaching issues, the drives inside rated to hit 55, 60°C even under heavy stress. The larger drives will operate quite hot....."
In terms of noise, it is normal to hear very little when it writes a lot of data if you put your ear close.
It contains a Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC320 8TB, which is known for its reliability. After all, it is intended for Data Centers.
