This political autobiography is an important and enlightening book. We were quickly convinced that this document should be disseminated beyond Greece.
The armed groups in Greece went through phases and contradictions, the stakes of which have emerged similarly elsewhere: What is the right path for revolution? On whom should we build? How should we organize? Mass orientation or armed vanguard? Isolated and effective guerrilla cells, or cells anchored within the left and society? The book provides the Greek version of these questions and their practical outcomes for those seeking ways to radically change the prevailing conditions.
The translator, the publisher, and the publishers invested a lot of work in the German edition, as we find it important to present the history of 17N with authentic language. We share the respect of Greek anarchists and communists for the armed guerrilla, who - and the only one - took political responsibility for the actions of 17N.
We do not see his decision as a personal act of heroism, but as an individual consequence of collective political decisions and an expression of true faith. This is what is special about this book for us.
We hope it served as an obstacle to historical revisionism in Greece, and we aim for the same with this translation. It seems that the heartfelt desire of the author, as well as ours, is to make revolutionary history available in the current discussion.
