However, what sets them apart is not their subjects, but the way they are written, which will be decisive for Ernest Hemingway's entire subsequent work. Because here we hear that remarkable dialogue organized by the author of the people on the street, the neighborhood, the people who live on the border between law and illegality, and whose language resembles their own lives: without deep meanings, moral weight, and elaborate appearance.
This different attitude of Hemingway towards the language of narration also reflects his view of the role of the author. He does not seem to be fascinated by the career of the novelist who recreates the world through his office, but simply the effort to use writing as clearly and concisely as possible to objectively describe events or recreate with greater authenticity the sense of fear and violence.
