Description
Meet ancient Athens, living for twenty-four hours with its inhabitants and closely observing their daily lives. A slave in the mines, a fleet commander, a simple wife, a hoplite, a courtesan, and a fig smuggler: all these are the unique residents who vividly bring to life the existence in this ancient city-state for us.
Travel back in time and spend a day in ancient Athens in the company of its inhabitants. We are in 416 BC, and the city is enjoying the peak of its prosperity. More geniuses lived here than in any other city at any period in human history. However, even geniuses argue with their wives and drink with their friends. Discover their secrets.

For its price, the book is amazing. Very well written, you read details from the time of ancient Athens that we only learned through the great philosophers; we didn't know their daily lives (at least I didn't). If I have one negative, it's the quality of the paper that I didn't like; it reminded me of a book from a Sunday newspaper gift. I recommend it a thousand times. A beautiful gift.

Did you find this review helpful?Very nice booklet and overall the separate little stories (per chapter) help you not to get bored. The references/citations within the text from historical/philological sources are quite useful. I definitely recommend it.

Did you find this review helpful?Awesome book, written in a different way than usual, very interesting, with beautiful stories that take you on a journey from the first chapter! It gives you a "picture", as a worthy book should do! It also has many interesting details and stories that we don't all know.
*Most books refer to events starting from a protagonist or a famous ancient etc., but here it narrates each story/chapter by talking about the ordinary everyday person, and then "introduces" the famous person involved.
