Lightweight and versatile, the Nikon Z 50 mirrorless camera delivers unique photos and impressive videos. It is fast, powerful, and easy to use, making it ideal for both photo and video shooting, with a 20.9MP CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 image processor, allowing for fast performance up to 11 fps.
Clarity. No matter how you frame it.
Photos and 4K videos with perfect focus are at your disposal. The advanced hybrid AF (autofocus) system is fast, accurate, and extremely smooth. The AF points on the sensor cover approximately 90% of the frame horizontally and vertically for top-edge sharpness from edge to edge. Focusing on subjects happens instantly whether they are in the center, at the edge, or moving.
Superb performance after sunset
Take photos freely day and night, thanks to the automatic light sensitivity range of 100–51200 ISO and low-light AF. From urban landscapes in the midnight hours to low-light portraits, capture more details than ever in the dark
Friendly with people and animals
Capture even better spontaneous portraits of other people, as well as your dog or cat. The Eye Detection AF function locks onto the eyes for perfect human portraits. The Animal Detection AF function does the same for dogs and cats. The focus remains sharp even if your subject is moving.
Silent Operation
The Nikon Z 50 camera focuses silently and features a silent photography mode. The friend who asks you to bring your camera to their wedding knows that you will discreetly capture those unique moments.
Timing is everything
If you can see it – you can capture it. Continuous shooting at up to 11 frames per second (fps) with autofocus and auto exposure allows you to capture scenes that many others miss.
Your own videos
Your cinematic aspirations come true with the Nikon Z 50. You can record 4K/UHD video at 30p and capture slow-motion footage in Full HD. Without the limitations of the crop factor, you can take advantage of the full range of the camera's large DX-format sensor. You can also take photos while recording video and create stunning 4K time-lapse videos with the camera's built-in function.
See Clearly
The exceptional clarity of the electronic viewfinder (EVF) allows you to see everything clearly, whether you are taking photos or videos. The electronic viewfinder displays a natural image, similar to the optical viewfinders of DSLRs. At the same time, you can see your images as they will be after applying the settings you want. The display remains smooth and stable, even when you magnify it to ensure you have focused.
Everywhere you go
The Nikon Z 50 is ready to capture every moment that impresses you and also features a pop-up flash for additional lighting. With its lightweight body, you can take it with you everywhere, and it includes a strong magnesium alloy on the top and front.
Your Angle
The large high-resolution LCD screen has touch controls similar to those of smartphones and can tilt up or down. Whether you're shooting video or selfies, your angles are better than ever.
Your Style
There are 20 creative effects within the camera for photos and videos, and you can add your own touch to each of them. Simply adjust the intensity during the preview of the effect to achieve results that are uniquely yours.
Made to be held
Once you feel your fingers gripping the deep handle of this camera and start shooting, you won't want to part with it. With buttons and touch controls carefully placed, operation is effortless and the simple and clear DSLR-style menu is learned in no time. The autofocus cannot capture flying birds satisfactorily. The static photos are very good compared to my previous crop DSLR. It is very lightweight with a secure grip with a 300mm lens and the adapter. For a day of outdoor photography, I need 3 batteries, whereas before with my DSLR, one battery would last me half a week.
Bought from a camera store a month ago at a lower price than the current one. Although the two lenses in the package are not fast in aperture, the result is better than expected. Coming from a DSLR D5200 with many thousands of clicks in the last decade, the difference between them is huge.
Very good image quality at ISO up to 8000 that I tested. Very fast autofocus due to the expeed 6 sensor. Powerful 4k/30 video quality, which although it doesn't come out of the camera with HLG, can be achieved through software on a computer if the user demands it. The video is not subject to crop like in other models and the focus is fast with a clear image.
With the FTZ or FTZII adapter, almost all F-mount lenses, both full frame and crop, can be attached to the z50, so we are not limited to using only Z-mount lenses.
The JPEG images have very good quality, while the RAW files are 14-bit with plenty of information for editing in PS/LR. The dynamic range provided by the sensor is very high even at ISO 6400, although such a high number will not be needed frequently.
The 4 stars are due to the unjustifiably low battery capacity, which pushes you to definitely buy a second one. Because mirrorless cameras do not have a mirror in front of the sensor, they incorporate a lot of electronic systems, resulting in higher energy consumption. The estimated number of shots per battery is 300, which may decrease in low temperatures or when shooting videos for a long time.
I have an excellent camera, I'm amazed by the images it can capture.. It has an awesome grip.. The autofocus system is very good.. The viewfinder and screen are quite bright.. You can easily take high ISO photos at night without any problem with a little editing.. The video is very good, both in 4k and in slow motion at 1080p.. The 16-50 kit lens is very good with nice colors, sharp and with high contrast.. Also, the VR is very effective.. I highly recommend it.
After much thought, I decided to switch from a DSLR as I was tired of the weight and bulkiness. I was almost ready to go for the x-t30, but the non-existent grip concerned me. In the end, I settled for the Z50 as it has a truly exceptional grip that can accommodate even larger lenses.
As a camera, it is truly outstanding! Small in size, very satisfactory ISO performance, and a very good viewfinder. There are countless reviews and samples available to judge its image quality.
I cannot judge the menus as I come from a d7xxx, so I didn't notice any difference. A big advantage is the ability to charge via USB (so you only have to carry the body with the lens and nothing else).
It is also positive that there is now a fairly easy-to-use mobile application (although from what I have read, there are some issues with Bluetooth on iPhones).
As a kit with the 15-50 lens, the positives are that (for a kit lens) it is very good, but also very dark (for normal use, the excellent high ISO performance and VR help). It is particularly small in size, which, combined with the camera, feels like you're not carrying anything.
The biggest problem at the moment for the Z50 is the lack of lenses. Yes, there are 1.8 or 2.8 lenses for the Z mount, and yes, you can use almost anything with the adapter, but it loses its main advantage, which is its compact size.
(Even if you use the smallest f-mount lens, it still becomes quite large).
Overall, I would recommend it, as you can achieve very good results in a small size or exceptional results if you don't mind using larger lenses. (Something that I believe will be resolved in the future, as there will surely be a 50mm and 35mm 1.8 DX)
I bought the product from a store with a €200 cash-back. As soon as I held it in my hands, I couldn't believe how convenient it is. The grip is fantastic (you don't have to worry about it slipping from your hands), the build quality is Nikon, which means it's top-notch. It has protection against dust and moisture. It is lightweight and compact, and the kit lens is surprisingly good for a kit lens. It easily detects eyes and faces for portraits. And the 3 Nikon lenses I had before work perfectly with the adapter. The video is also very good. It might be one of the best in the competition (it may not have a log profile, but the flat profile is quite good). I believe the camera is well-designed to be affordable and offer much more compared to the competition at this price.
So even though the Canon M6mkII may have more megapixels, because the Z50 has a better sensor and no anti-alias filters, the photos are better and sharper even in low light. Finally, the fact that it has a Full Frame mount gives an additional incentive for someone who is considering moving to Full Frame in the future. In conclusion, I believe that for this price, this camera is a reliable choice for friends who are looking for a quality travel camera. An additional surprise is the built-in Picture Controls (filters) - they are not at the level of Fujifilm, but they are interesting for those who like Instagram (not me). P.S.: Pancake lenses are also coming soon according to Nikon's roadmap.
UPDATE: Another positive aspect is the communication with the mobile phone. It is much better than before. The photos I take go directly to my phone if I want to share them.
UPDATE2: Don't forget to do a firmware update as soon as you buy it. It greatly helps autofocus.
UPDATE3: Today I learned that it also received the EISA Award for best buy camera. Rightfully so, in my opinion.
