BOOKS D` - Z`: The geography of plants. Woods, shrubs, herbs, cereals. Theophrastus from Eresos of Lesvos was born around 370 BC. He studied at the Platonic Academy and became friends with Aristotle. After the departure of the Stagirite from Athens (323 BC), he succeeded him in the direction of the Peripatetic school. He taught numerous students, among them Menander, Demetrius of Phaleron, Dinarchus. He died at an advanced age in 287 BC. His works, both thematically and in terms of titles, refer to Aristotle, whom he generally followed. He dealt with all fields of natural science and also with philosophy, rhetoric, political thought. From his philosophical work, we have few fragments, but a large part of his physiognomic writings and the `Characters` are preserved. [Excerpt from publisher or edition presentation text]
