The classic multiplayer roguelike, Risk of Rain, returns with an additional dimension. No run will ever be the same with random stages, enemies, bosses, and items. Play solo or team up with up to four friends to fight through hordes of monsters, unlock new loot, and find a way to escape the planet. Additional survivors, stages, items, enemies, and features are still in active development and will be added through multiple free content updates.

The Risk of Rain games are Rogue-like. That means they are very difficult games where every time you die, you start from scratch, unlocking alternative ways to play.
Risk of Rain 2 is considered one of the best, and it deserves it. It was made by 3 people, but once you learn how to play it, it becomes incredibly addictive.
Story-wise, you are survivors on a planet where a mysterious phenomenon is happening. The game doesn't give much importance to the story, and neither do you.
In practice, you choose one of the survivors and play a 3rd Person Shooter in large areas where enemies constantly respawn until you find the portal that will take you to the next level. Things are not that simple, as every minute that passes, the enemies become stronger, and in order to become stronger yourself, you have to collect money from the enemies you kill to open scattered boxes on the map that contain weapons and upgrades. Once you activate the portal on a level, you have to survive waves of enemies near it and defeat a boss in order to leave. As you play and discover secrets on the levels, you unlock characters and gadgets for future runs.
The gameplay, once you surpass the initial moments where you are slow and weak and start collecting tools, becomes incredibly addictive! There are no limits to the tools you can collect, and everything stacks, resulting in crazy numbers deep into the game.
Furthermore, the game can be played multiplayer, and it is balanced by the fact that you have to share the tools with your teammates.
Finally, this version includes the entire first game. It is identical to the second game, with the only difference being that it is a side-scroller.
HINTS for beginners:
• The beginning is slow and difficult. The Commando is considered by many to be the worst character, and until you beat a few levels, he will be the only one available.
• Don't stand still! Except for the Engineer, the gameplay is designed for constant movement (and if you can constantly jump, it helps). Don't ignore items that give you speed, like Energy Drinks, as in a game where time is against you, quickly exploring the map helps immensely.
• The items go as follows: White = common. Green = uncommon. Red = rare. Yellow = boss/planet items. Orange are the tools, from which you can only keep one. Blue are the Lunar Items, which are double-edged swords (that's why they don't automatically collect).
• The 3D printers create the item they show as many times as you want, consuming an item of the same rarity. The scrappers convert an item of your choice into raw material that will always have priority in the printers.
• If you're having trouble finding the Portals, the area they are in always has red beacons that can be seen from afar, except for the portal on the 5th level, which has a different shape and the beacons are a different color.
• In the secret areas, time is stopped. If you can win items, it's worth going to these areas.
• On the 5th level, there is a hidden base under the platforms, where if you input one of the correct combinations, you will open an exit that will take you to a secret level that you create using an artifact (depending on the code you entered). You choose the Artifacts before each run and they change the rules of the game. The codes are well designed on all tracks (including secret ones), but you can easily find them online.
