In my review, I refer to its performance in (mainly offline) games and its noise on a desktop PC.

I am very satisfied with the drive, especially regarding its performance, and personally, I am not bothered by any of its negatives, but I will mention some that you might not have thought of at first.

I got the 4TB version for 116 euros and I have it in my own PC, which is on the desk next to me, and I use it for space expansion so I can throw in there anything that takes up space from videos, download movies, and keep older games. I know it is a NAS drive and has some differences from others, but I wanted it because of its performance, which tears it up at 220-250MB/s.

I didn't go for the Barracuda because even though it was 25€ cheaper at the time and is quieter, I have heard that the Barracuda had high failure rates, where it actually failed. If you go for 8TB, get the EXOS for 160-170€ which is very VFM. It has the same chassis as the Ironwolf pro.

Regarding OBS screen recording directly to the drive, there is absolutely no issue. It is perfect, I would say.

I was incredibly impressed by the speed of the drive in games as well, since from some comparisons I have seen on YouTube, a common pattern in loading games was that the HDD took 1:40 minutes, a SATA SSD 25-30 seconds, and an NVME M.2 SSD about 15-20 seconds. Keeping this in mind, I tried loading some games myself, and really NONE except one took me more than 40 seconds to load (instead of 1m 40s), and sometimes it loaded within 30 seconds, which seemed incredibly fast for an HDD. We are talking about AAA games like Forza Horizon 4 & 5, Watch Dogs Legion, AC Odyssey, Cyberpunk, and Uncharted 4. The one that took a bit longer was Alan Wake 2, but to be honest, this game is incredibly demanding in everything, and it is something different from many other games. What will take a bit longer compared to an SSD is updating the games, e.g., via Steam, because it will apply the update for a longer time (e.g., 10 extra minutes if it is a 50GB game), which does not bother me.

One negative that fortunately does not bother me, but may annoy others, is that it makes quite a bit of noise because it is a NAS (you probably already know this about this drive). If you have a relatively new PC that is silent, you will hear it. When it is idle, it is okay (it still makes noise but very little), but if it is downloading something or reading constantly and you are sitting next to it without speakers or headphones, it sounds like it is constantly grinding. It is definitely 3 times noisier than regular HDDs.

That's it. It was definitely worth it at 100 to 110€ if you wanted the extra space at a good price. Otherwise, if you don't like HDDs, your next immediately better options are M2 SSDs at 2TB, like the Lexar NM790 SSD and the Western Digital SN770 SSD, whose prices range from 110-120€.

Το μόνο σοβαρό θέμα ειναι οτι κάνει πολύ θόρυβο -

και το δεύτερο, οτι στους 4 που πήρα, ο ένας ήταν νεκρός DOA.

Τον πήρα γιατί έχει 5 χρόνια εγγύηση, και μεγάλη αντοχή. Εσωτερικά ελέγχει τους κραδασμούς από τους διπλανούς δίσκους – αλλά δεν έχω καταλάβει τι κάνει και που τους ελέγχει γιατί είναι θορυβώδες….

Και επίσης έχει έναν ξεχωριστό τρόπο που ελέγχει την κατάσταση του πέρα από το smart – αυτός ήταν ο λόγος που πρέπει να ακούω αυτόν τον θόρυβο, ή να τον πάω κάπου μακριά μου…

Συνολικά έχω αγοράσει 8 στον nas + 2 στον υπολογιστή. Στους 8, οι 2 βγήκαν DOA, ο ένας χαλασμένος απλά δεν ήταν εμφανές - ολα τα προβλήματα ήταν απο γνωστό μαγαζί - απο αγνωστα μαγαζιά δεν είχαν προβλήματα οι δίσκοι.

Για να διευκρινίσω κάτι – ο θόρυβος υπάρχει όταν ο δίσκος κάνει κάποιο scan και η κεφαλή του πάει πέρα δώθε – εκεί είναι υπερβολικός σε σχέση με άλλους που δεν τους ακούς καν.

Νομίζω πως ο λόγος είναι πως οι κεφαλές του είναι πολύ δυνατές, πολύ βαριές κάτι τέτοιο μπορώ να καταλάβω, και καθώς τις μετακινεί με μεγάλη δύναμη ακούγονται πάρα μα πάρα πολύ.

Σε γενικές γραμμές δεν είναι κακός δίσκος, το αντίθετο – είναι μια χαρά.

Έβαλα άλλους 2 και στον υπολογιστή, εκτός από το nas – αφού πήρα τους πρώτους, τους πήρα όλους ίδιους μήπως χρειαστεί να αλλάξω κάποιον μεταξύ των.
