Step outside the ordinary with this wide-angle lens. The F-2.8 Di III RXD (model A046) 17-28mm model is an ultra-wide-angle, large-aperture lens for Sony E-mount cameras designed exclusively for Mirrorless cameras and provides unmatched portability and excellent image quality.
It is the smallest and lightest zoom lens in its class. The unique 17-28mm zoom adds new dimensions to landscape, urban, mountain photography – as well as groups and indoor building spaces. Despite its small size, it offers exceptional optical performance. Strategically developed LD (Low Dispersion) and XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) elements fully address chromatic aberration.
The combination of the ultra-wide angle with a focal length and MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m at the wide-angle end encourages rich expressive and creative photography. The new 17-28mm zoom AF drive system is powered by the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping drive) motor unit, which allows it to provide high-speed, high-precision operation.
Additionally, this new zoom lens is built with moisture resistance and a hydrophobic fluorine coating that repels fingerprints and dirt. This compact yet powerful tool will enhance your mobility and lead you to the vision of capturing subjects in new ways.

Amazing lens value for money. I replaced it with the Sony 20mm F1.8 because I wanted the extra brightness but
The AF of the Tamron is slightly better (and the exceptional)
IBIS marginally better with the Sony
Otherwise, amazing lens very sharp nice colors and overall no complaints if you don't need the extra stop in light.
I bought it brand new in 2019 when it was released and I use it with the A7Riii. It has incredible sharpness throughout the range and highlights all the details of the A7Riii sensor. Its construction is plasticky and the focus ring is awkward. I have used it in rain, snow, ice, sea, heat, and sun and it hasn't suffered the slightest damage. Finally, it has a 5-year warranty and the latest update significantly improved the focus speed.
The best super wide angle zoom for SONY FE in its price and category.
Initially, I was surprised by the relatively limited range (17-28) compared to the more common 16-35mm. However, when I attached it to the camera (A7r II), I understood why Tamron chose a smaller zoom than its competitors. The lens performs exceptionally well at the most useful focal lengths (17-24mm), even wide open at f/2.8, throughout the frame, unlike the Sony 16-35mm f/4, which requires stopping down the aperture significantly to achieve satisfactory resolution at the edges.
It is brighter (f/2.8), lighter (~420g), and sharper than the Sony 16-35mm f/4, which is its direct competitor. It lacks image stabilization, which doesn't bother me personally because the A7R II has in-body stabilization.
At the wide end, there is a 1mm difference; the 16mm is noticeably wider than the 17mm, but I prefer the better optical performance at 17mm over the mediocre performance at 16mm.
At 28mm, it is somewhat soft compared to the shorter focal lengths, but personally, it doesn't bother me much because it performs excellently where I need it the most (17-20mm).
Overall, it is a very balanced lens, performing well in all aspects and achieving this while being f/2.8 and lightweight
I bought it almost a month ago from a store in Thessaloniki for €999. I have used it for 2-3 video projects and several photos with the Full Frame A7III, and it is truly worth the money. It is quite wide as a zoom lens, and its positive features include weather sealing, its lightweight, sharpness, and fast autofocus in low light conditions. The only negative thing I can say is that I would have liked it to reach up to 35mm or around that range.
