  The mill definitely does not work for salt, I doubt it works for pepper either. It has a ceramic mechanism but the support of the mechanism is metal and it oxidizes, darkens, and rusts, leaving residues and rust on the mechanism and on the salt that falls, as shown in the photo (8 months after purchase).

  For the short time that I have been using it, it continues to cut well. However, in terms of cutting, I would say it works better if you have chosen to cut the pepper almost like powder. If you set it to cut coarsely, after a certain point it cannot cut the pepper (it escapes from the blades) and the cutting adjustment screw constantly loosens. I would recommend a better mill than this one if you don't want the pepper to be particularly finely ground.
