It is a plug and play connection, without needing to do anything more than plugging it into the power, connecting it with an ethernet cable to the existing router, and connecting four other devices with ethernet cables. There is also a larger version with more ports, but for me, the five ports were enough, one of which is not counted because it connects to the router.
