A father and his disabled son, armed with the love they have for each other, struggle to survive in a village that is becoming deserted, in the mountains of Epirus. Around them, an ecological disaster has occurred; the water is no longer drinkable, and the animals and plants are poisoned. Their struggle is narrated in a simple and poetic manner in Black Water. "He waited patiently; he knew that sooner or later some animal would come down to quench its thirst in the water, deceived by its babbling sound. Fifty meters back was the old tank, with the letters of RIPOIL half-erased on it, while the plane tree leaves deepened with their shadow the brown-red color of rust. Holes had opened in the metal, a thick layer of rotten leaves had turned into humus inside, and the old tank was full of life: insects, rodents, birds coming and going. The plane tree forest next to the river had accepted the metallic stranger with condescension, surrounded it with shade, and branches touched and penetrated it." * MICHALIS MAKROPOULOS was born in 1965 in Athens. He studied biology at the University of Athens. He lived for nine years in Thessaloniki. For the past nine years, he has been living with his family in Lefkada and spends long periods in Delvinaki Pogoni, in Epirus, where the novellas "Sparrow" (Sparrow, Graham, Pikramenos 2012), The Judas Tree (Kichli 2014), "Tsotsigia" (Tsotsigia & Om, Kichli 2017), as well as other stories of his, take place.
