Description
Hemingway's radiance as a writer, before being honored with the Nobel Prize, was so great that it inevitably overshadowed two other qualities with which he had also gained international fame. Before becoming the popular novelist, a modern classic, he was a distinguished war correspondent and military analyst. With this volume, the third and final in the series, the publication of his journalistic texts covering a dense fifteen-year period, the years 1941-1956, World War II, and the post-war years, is completed. We follow him from the battlefields to the shores of his beloved Cuba. From his penetrating reports when he was in the Far East, we move to the atmospheric description of the Normandy Invasion. From the experience of flying in a bomber plane, we are transported to the Battle of Paris and immediately after, we witness the counterattack of the allied forces on German soil. And from the demanding fishing of the sailfish off the coast of Havana, on the famous "Pilar," we arrive at the incredible adventure he experienced in the African jungle, when he read, while still alive, the obituaries written for him.
