The theory of gender wants to be our new gospel, bringing the "good news" that male and female are only historical and social constructs, and therefore can be deconstructed. Bérénice Levet maintains equal distance between the supporters and opponents of gender theory. She wonders: at the heart of gender theory, in this promise of a world where there will no longer be men or women but creatures assigned to a supposed primordial neutrality, is there not a will to clip the wings of heterosexual desire, to exorcise the ghost of attraction that the two genders inspire in each other? Is gender theory not the latest guise of hatred for Love, the latest version of a puritanism that does not dare to speak its name and uses a progressive alibi?
