The SD-1 Super OverDrive pedal produces the warm, natural distortion of an overdriven tube amplifier while preserving the subtle nuances of each guitarist's picking technique, making it ideal for blues and rock.

I mainly use it for boosting in front of an already dirty amplifier (Marshall dsl20) in high gain mode. The pedal works wonders for this purpose as it tightens up the low frequencies, cleaning up the guitar sound and adding extra gain (tested with both 6-string and 7-string guitars using the classic setting: level full, drive 0, tone at 1-2 o'clock). However, even on a clean channel with the tone lowered and some tweaking on the amplifier's EQ, it produces a very nice driven sound. The construction is solid like a tank, as with all Boss pedals. 5 stars are not enough.
Like all BOSS products, it is value for money. Usually used as an alternative to the tubescreamer, as it gives a different character to the sound. Firstly, it gives you the feeling that it has much more gain compared to a TS Style pedal, which is a result of its hard clipping circuit, giving it a more aggressive and dynamic character. At the same time, it does not have the sweet midrange of the TS, but it offers a boost in the high mids and cuts quite a bit of bass. This particular characteristic makes it excellent for use as a boost in a dull, slightly distorted amplifier (vintage style Marshall) or as a stack with a softer pedal, like a Blues Breaker for example.
For the money, it is very good. It goes without saying that you should use it correctly, otherwise it has a lot of noise. I usually don't turn the level up high.
Very good pedal for metal bass (for metal music).
