Description

The treatment of the subject in this book was approached from the perspective of the history of cultural institutions, particularly those related to the visual arts in Greece, covering the period from the Revolution to the present day. An attempt was made to justify their evolution over time and ways to interpret them were sought. A key point of reference was the historical and political events and the related initiatives of their protagonists. This approach followed certain interpretative models, mainly derived from reception theory and sociological theory. Aspects of Greek culture were presented through their functioning within a specific historical and social context. The factors that influenced the imposition of specific artistic forms were examined, and to what extent these were the result of specific policies. It is self-evident that the exploration of this field requires the assistance of other techniques and forms of research to further illuminate the subject of this study.   Panagiota M. Papanikolaou studied History and Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She continued her studies in Arts and Cultural Management in London. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ioannina and teaches at university institutions in Greece. Her research focuses on the History of Art and Cultural Management. She has published numerous studies in Greek and international journals, as well as the books: -Athens 2004: The Legacy of the Cultural Olympiad (2015), Saarbrücken: Scholars` Press -Museums, Memory, and Heritage in Greece. The Cultural Olympiad 2004 (2017) Thessaloniki: Epikentro.
