If you are a beginner, first watch a video on how to use these machines. They require two to three passes. Don't think that you can buy a laser machine that will get everything in one go. I find it very difficult to impossible to cut yourself. The result, depending on the blade that suits you, is very good. Also, irritation and ingrown hairs are reduced, which is important for someone who has issues with these two. In general, if you have the passion and willingness to dedicate time to your shaving, it is an ideal case. If you want something quick, go for the classic plastic ones with many blades, but with more irritation and ingrown hairs

Did you find this review helpful?I started with King C Gillette and then got R41, R89, Fatip Special Edition, Wilkinson Sword, so I have some relevant experience... let's talk... it is the mildest of all... the ideal razor for beginners and for experienced users with sensitive skin... with a sharp blade and three passes, you get a great shave... yes, it requires repetitions, but who is in a hurry... if you want fewer repetitions, you take an R41 and do one pass plus touch-ups and you're done... what you get from this razor, that is, the R89, is its smoothness for daily use...

After trying several cheaper and more expensive razors, now having experience shaving very quickly without the initial fears and being a beginner in the safety razor, my opinion about the R89 hasn't changed much... it is a mild razor for beginners but also for experienced users who want something very mild... but the hobby can become a bottomless pit... now having tried quite a few things, I ended up with the Rockwell 6S... it is a razor that is expensive for many, costing around 120 euros, but it is stainless steel and adjustable, and you can stick with it... a very smooth razor and at the same time effective... for those who want something cheaper, there is also the 6C at around 50 euros...
If you were to ask me now which razor I would recommend for a beginner to start with, it would be the 6C, and to stick with it for about six months to improve their technique... there is time for the R41 and for many aggressive razors that require experience... the R41 seems like a toy to me now, and I have shaved with it very few times because I learned with the mild ones, improving my technique... half of the experience is the materials and half is the technique... many people keep shopping, searching for the ideal, but the secret is the technique... happy shaving...Translated from Greek ·- Cleaning

Did you find this review helpful?From April 2021, I was using a razor that has almost the same head as the Muhle R89, the Edwin Jagger DE89 with a glossy handle, and I was very satisfied. Recently, it got damaged due to a fall and became unusable. Since it was out of stock, I bought the Muhle R89 with the recommendation of the seller, who told me that they only differ in the handle (textured handle). The head is indeed the same, with the only difference being the safety plate: the Edwin Jagger DE89 has 2 triangular marks (from the casting), while the Muhle R89 does not have any markings. Overall, it is a perfect razor for everyone (beginners and experienced users). Excellent finish, built to last for many years. It is a mild razor that you can use daily without cuts or irritations. It shaves 3-4 days of growth without any problems, and it never clogs! Although it is a mild razor, the sensation it gives is not boring at all. It is a real pleasure. I haven't noticed any significant difference compared to the Edwin Jagger DE89, except for one point: the Muhle R89 feels much more compact and solid during shaving (maybe due to the tightness of the head and handle). In this aspect, I haven't tried anything better. It gives the feeling that the razor is part of the machine and not something additional. Additionally, I have noticed an increased blade lifespan. Even with Astor Stainless, on the 11th shave, it doesn't pull at all. I use various blades, but mostly Gillette Platinum and Astor Stainless (which I find in supermarkets) without any problems. As for the method and consumables, for the past 6-8 months, I have been using easily available materials. Pre-shave glycerin soap from Papoutsanis with a funny cost of €2.26 for 4 soaps of 125g each, Nivea protect & care shaving cream with Aloe for €1.5 per tube, and for aftershave, I use Old Spice Original or Nivea aftershave Balm or Medisei Panthenol extra. Recently, for the past 2+ months, I decided to use almost exclusively the Haslinger shaving soap with sheep's milk. The razor with this soap has reached its peak performance! Additionally, the blades, at least the Astor ones, NEVER GET DULL and give the feeling that they last forever (experimentally, I have used a blade for 23 shaves - always with 3 passes - without any problem...). I highly recommend it to everyone.

Very nice finish with chrome coating, carved handle so it doesn't slip in your hand and sturdy construction. You feel safe with it, that it protects you from mishaps and when the time comes to learn it by developing your technique (this takes about a hundred shaves) you will get the perfect shave (yes, even b.b.s.) in minimal time. But the secret of this machine is that it must just touch and pass over the skin with minimal to no pressure. Combine it with a sharp blade e.g. Feather, Bic, Nacet, Permasharp and enjoy traditional shaving. The price in relation to the quality of construction is excellent. In addition, you can change the head by converting it to R41.
