Description

This manual consists of two Parts and an Appendix.

In Part A, it was deemed necessary to refer to the general education developed in the 5th century BC in Athens for two reasons: a) because it is related to the older name of the subject as "Encyclopedia of Theology" and b) because it significantly contributed to the cultivation of human thought, the dialogue of the Gospel with the cultural environment of the Greek-speaking East, and the development of academic institutions and sciences in the West and subsequently throughout the world.

Subsequently, the characteristics of the two approaches to our subject are presented and compared with their older names, "Encyclopedia of Theology" and "Introduction to Theology." The timeless meanings of the term "Theology" in ancient Greek and Christian literature are examined. The study of Theology in the educational institutions of the Greek-speaking East and the Latin-speaking West is chronologically depicted, the creation of the first universities in the West with the administrative and operational structures that govern modern higher education institutions, the study of Theology in recent years, its acceptance and questioning among the sciences, theological studies in Greece, and the future of Theology in the modern university.

In Part B, texts of contemporary theological reflection from the 1960s onwards are presented, outlining the characteristics of Orthodox Theology, its relationship with the Church, the dynamic and static view of the patristic tradition, the scientific methods and the cultural environment in which theological thought is cultivated, as well as the need for contemporary testimony of the Christian faith.

In the Appendix, prospective researchers can find comprehensive guidelines for conducting scientific work: defining the topic, methodology, bibliography, indexing and evaluating findings, composition, structure, linguistic style, citation system, bibliography, and table of contents.
