The 1850s is one of the richest decades concerning Marx's work in its multiple dimensions. Political action and analysis in the aftermath of the revolution, social and economic journalism regarding the dynamics of the international map, thorough studies for the intended work of the critique of political economy, as well as dense correspondence with acquaintances and collaborators – frame Marx's activity as a resident of London. During this decade, some classic works of Marxist literature were composed, such as The Class Struggles in France from 1848 to 1850, The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte, and Revelations on the Communist Trial in Cologne, which are included in new translation and editing in this anthology. Many other texts are published for the first time in Greece, such as, among others, the series of articles on the parliamentary elections in England in 1852, on Palmerston in 1853, on revolutionary Spain in 1854, on China and the Opium War, on India and the sepoy mutinies, on Tsarist Russia and its political ambitions. Those lamenting the lack of a 'political theory' in Marx's work will have every opportunity to revise this view, as with the material contained here – analysis of political systems, analysis of revolutionary processes – a particularly interesting aspect of Marxist critique is highlighted. Analyses of international politics are combined in journalistic work with analyses of international economics, which include the economic support mechanism of Louis Bonaparte with the Crédit Mobilier company, as well as the activities of the Bank of England. For the first time, Marx's handwritten notes from 1857 for a new critique of Bruno Bauer are also published – a late, and particularly characteristic continuation of the critique that had been formulated with The German Ideology. Additionally, the selection from the epistolary work, combining letters from Friedrich Engels (as well as his fateful Introduction in 1895 to The Class Struggles in France) opens a range of communication and research interests, forming a privileged starting point for a new engagement with Marx. In the pages included in the new anthology, every reader will surely find new material and new research perspectives on the most important critical thinker of modernity. The anthology of the 1850s is included in 2 Volumes and 1600 pages, due to the great wealth and breadth of Marx's work during this specific period. The edition contains a detailed chronology, 100 works by K. Marx, 25 of his letters, 3 appendices, and detailed indexes of names and terms. The work for the study, translation, and presentation of the anthology was carried out in collaboration with the team of MEGA (Marx Engels Gesamtausgabe) at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and, through MEGA, with the International Marx-Engels Foundation (Internationale Marx-Engels-Stiftung – IMES), while for the texts that have not been published so far in the volumes of MEGA, only the original publications were taken into account.
