Description

A heinous crime. An unsolved riddle. In Flint City's park, the abused body of a boy is discovered. Witness testimonies and fingerprints incriminate one of the town's most beloved residents, Terry Maitland, a baseball coach, teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson orders his immediate arrest in a public place: on the field, during a game. Maitland has an alibi and maintains his innocence, but Anderson and the prosecutor bring to light DNA evidence that strengthens his guilt. Maitland doesn't have the demeanor of a murderer. But could he be... two-faced? Could there be someone... foreign? "What begins as a manhunt for a doppelgänger takes a bizarre turn towards the supernatural. With masterful use of forensic knowledge, King tells his story in a realistically cold setting, where terror stands out vividly." – Publishers Weekly "King knows how to rev up... the pace, turning the pleasant reading of a well-written story into a dizzying race of suspense... as if there's no tomorrow..." – The Washington Post Stephen King is one of the most important authors of our time. He has written over 50 novels, 200 short stories, and essays, with sales exceeding 350,000,000 copies. The third book I am reading by Stephen King (after Salem's Lot and The Shining). It is one of his newer and more recent books, unlike the other two that I read which were from his earlier works. However, despite hearing many people say that his old books were much better, I can say that I liked this one just as much, maybe even more than The Shining. It is one of the best I have read. It blends two genres, crime fiction and horror literature, and I really liked this combination. In the beginning, everything that happens is so strange that you just want to keep reading to see what will happen in the end. The ending was not excessive or anything fantastical, but it was definitely not bad as I hear from some people.
