The independence from the Ottoman Empire came for the Greeks after nearly a decade of hard armed struggle and trial (1821-1830). The fragmented society of the revolutionaries was an obstacle to the coordination of forces, which formed opposing networks, each with its own hierarchy and distinct goals. It is therefore not surprising that after the cooperation of the first two years of the Struggle, civil conflicts followed. Nevertheless, the Revolution responded to the basic ambition of those who fought: the creation of a unified, free state. A synthetic approach to the fundamental event for the Greeks and the early years of the new Greek state.
