The gears change easily and can be comfortably operated by a 5-7-year-old child. The frame has a slightly smaller height than other bikes in its category, which makes it easier for a child of average height for their age. My child has enjoyed it very much! The only flaw is the stand that Orient provides, it has a bend like most stands, but when closed, it touches the rear wheel, something that it has been doing since the first day without being bent.
