As Yayoi Kusama grew up in Japan, she dreamed of becoming an artist. In the gardens that spread out in her parents' nurseries, she enjoyed drawing flowers, plants, and stones, creating with her imagination a world made up of clusters, formations, and rows of dots. She constantly imagined that the world around her was made of dots, which created multifaceted combinations and intricate shapes.
When she completed her studies in traditional Japanese painting, she moved to New York. There, she quickly gained great fame for her paintings with polka dot patterns and her large, airy constructions made up of stuffed cylindrical shapes, as well as her large soft sculptures - constructions made of stuffed fabric, with which she covered chairs, sofas, and boats.
Kusama exhibited her work all over the world with great success. Everyone wanted to admire her famous rooms with multiple mirrors that she created, in which reflections of colored lights multiplied infinitely, where colorful lights endlessly sent their reflections. Crowds also flock to her rooms that are initially white and gradually covered with dots, more and more dots. "Our earth is nothing but a dot among millions of stars in the universe," Kusama said. "Dots are a path to infinity."
This book tells the story of an artist who covered the world with dots, from here to infinity, through words and images.
