Description

"This book will benefit a multitude of people who are capable of helping young and mature individuals overcome the barrier that dyslexia represents. Few can convey information as successfully as Gavin Reid on this subject." Sir Jackie Stewart, President of Dyslexia Scotland and Vice President of the British Dyslexia Association. Ideal for teachers, students in education-based courses, and educational psychologists, this new, updated edition of Gavin Reid's best-selling handbook is an essential aid for practice and research in the fields of dyslexia and literacy. The fourth edition of Dyslexia: A Practitioner's Handbook incorporates the latest theoretical and practical research in the field of dyslexia and literacy. While emphasis is placed on inclusion and meeting the needs of all those in the mainstream system, the book also addresses the optimal provision of specialized practice, focusing specifically on individualized approaches. The chapters examine primary and secondary education and adult education, as well as the role of parents. A new chapter on preschool practice complements all of the above. Other new chapters identify the issues teachers face and offer practical and insightful advice on how to approach and handle them in the context of new research findings. New features include chapter content summaries at the beginning of each chapter and points for reflection at the end of each chapter. The appendices include tests that teachers can use and a comprehensive list of updated contact details for various organizations related to dyslexia and literacy. Dr. Gavin Reid is a learning difficulties consultant at the Centre for Child Education and Teaching in Kuwait and an independent educational psychologist in Vancouver, Canada. He is also the co-founder and director of the Red Rose School for children with specific learning difficulties in St Annes-on-Sea, Lancashire, UK. He was formerly a senior lecturer at the Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, UK.
