Description

"Listen to what is not my wisdom, but that of a very enlightened elder: If you see things with the eyes of a bee, you will see everything as honey. But if you see them with the eyes of a fly, you will see everything as filth."

With these words, the leader stood up, considering the discussion over. George also stood up and headed towards the door. Just before he went out, he stopped and turned around to reply:
"If you put a bee in a stable, it will fly away because it will not find anything beneficial. If you put a fly in a beehive, the bees will kill it. How and when I will leave from here will show what I am."

When the white-haired elder was alone, he stood in a prayer position under the icon of the Virgin Mary and whispered with a broken voice:
"My Pantanassa, a fly has come to Your Garden. You who swiftly come to anyone who invokes You and have compassion for all of us, intercede with Your Son to have mercy on him! He has lost his way, may he not lose his soul...".

An unconventional story of personal search, between faith and atheism.
The questioning of human certainties and the experiential approach to Truth, against the backdrop of the Virgin Mary's garden.

  • Very good and easily understandable novel. Practical and simple answers to questions regarding our Orthodox religion.

  • It is a truly touching book that also has a lot of humor. The interest increases as the story progresses and although you consider an expected and predictable ending in the last lines, there is a twist that moves the reader and puts them into thoughts. A book - a story that will provide pleasant company to every reader regardless of religious beliefs.

  • I just finished reading this wonderful book with tears in my eyes!! For those of us who have experienced Mount Athos, it is exceptional, but also for those who have never been. It seems that the author is knowledgeable about life there and manages to transport you with great artistry to those places.
Apart from that, it is a very good book for those who have second thoughts about our faith and God.
I would definitely recommend it to everyone without hesitation!

Excellent book with clever humor. You read it very pleasantly, personally it took me only 3 days. It gives you "practical" answers and arguments if you are skeptical, even though it is a novel. I highly recommend it to everyone

  • It keeps the reader's interest uninterrupted and, without theologizing, answers the "rational" questions of our progressive (?) era. It is a very nice gift for those seeking answers about life and more...

An excellent novel that vividly describes the stay of George, a declared atheist woodcarver who took on a professional obligation in Mount Athos out of necessity. His stay there is a challenge for himself, but especially for the monks who host him... Unbelievable lines, hilarious scenes, and unpredictable responses follow one another in the conversations that the protagonist of the book, George, must have with both the elder of the monastery and some of the brothers within the framework of the work he has undertaken. However, the ending is the most shocking, and not as expected, as the development of the book suggests. Because George is truly determined to remain faithful to his beliefs...
