The speech of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on September 7, 2017, at Pnyx, was part of his visit to Greece, aimed at showing France's support for a country tested by a multi-year crisis, and promoting his ambitious plan for Europe at a time when the Union is wavering and reactionary voices are increasing. He chooses Pnyx as a place of high democratic symbolism to speak about the creation of a new Europe that will escape the narrowly technocratic management of its problems and will be able to emerge, amid aggressive and unpredictable globalization, as a dominant transnational power. President Macron proposes a sovereign Europe that can protect its peoples, especially those affected by the economic fluidity and insecurity caused by current conditions.
