Description

Family-systemic therapy is a branch of psychotherapy as well as a broader epistemological approach to understanding human relationships and problems.

In clinical practice, various schools of family therapy that have developed - from the oldest to the newest - propose different approaches, the main ones of which are hosted in this collective work. More specifically, the theoretical principles, the therapeutic process, and the main techniques are described, with reference to their main representative, of the following schools:

- Bowen's transgenerational approach,
- Satir's communication approach,
- Minuchin's structural approach,
- psychoanalytic family therapy,
- solution-focused therapy of de Shazer and Berg,
- the Milan school,
- Linares' ultramodern family therapy,
- SYMOSYTH (Synthetic Model of Systemic Therapy),
- narrative therapy,
- dialogical therapy,
- human systems therapy.

A brief reference is made to Whitaker's symbolic-experiential approach, Framo's object relations and family of origin, and Madanes and Haley's strategic therapy. It also includes the evolution of the broader social context and family therapy in Greece, as well as issues of education and professional training in systemic-family therapy.

Some important observations from the application of these approaches in clinical practice are also noted.

The book is addressed to trainees and new therapists, as well as professionals practicing family therapy, and aims to be useful to all those involved in the field of mental health and education (doctors, nurses, social workers, etc.).
