Esther Klein is born in Berlin on February 29, 1920. Petite, fragile, strange, just like the Weimar Republic. However, within her lies immense reserves of strength. Early on, she will experience both cruelty and affection. Her life spans the 20th century, making a perfect circle: Berlin – Buchenwald – New York – Berlin. She experiences the misery of the Nazi camps, losing everything she loved most. She will be at risk of losing even her own humanity but will emerge alive. The one who saves her is not a human but a dog. A dog that holds a great secret. Esther rebuilds her life, dedicating it to the protection of animals. Finally, she feels safe.
