Description

The book is included in the Eudoxus textbook database (book code: 77109884). You can read an excerpt, the contents, and the back cover here. One of the most important clinical texts written by Freud at the age of 70, revising his previous views on the thorny issue of anxiety. Here he formulates his so-called second theory of anxiety, referring to childhood anxiety, reality anxiety, neurotic anxiety, automatic anxiety, and primarily anxiety as a danger signal in the face of any threatening situation, which can lead to inhibition or symptom formation with the ego as its base. The feeling of anxiety exhibits some characteristics, the investigation of which promises to enlighten us further. Anxiety maintains an unmistakable relationship with anticipation; it is anxiety in the face of something. With this is connected a character of indeterminacy and absence of an object; the correct use of language even changes its name when anxiety finds an object, and then replaces it with fear. Beyond its relationship with danger, anxiety also has another relationship, that with neurosis, which we have been trying to clarify for a long time. Then the question arises why not all anxiety reactions are neurotic, why we recognize so many as normal; the difference ultimately between neurotic anxiety and reality anxiety requires an in-depth analysis.
