Greece, despite its small size, abounds in local dialects and idioms that bestow upon it an invaluable linguistic wealth. However, words that have survived for millennia are unfortunately being lost or have already been lost in our times in the face of the sweeping advance of the official Greek language. This edition, therefore, is an effort to collect, etymologically explain, and primarily preserve the words used in Vervena, Arcadia, a village hidden at an altitude of 1160m within Parnonas. The rich Vervenian idiom, as a variation of the broader Peloponnesian idiom, can serve as a source of valuable information about the history, folklore, and general tradition of the wider Peloponnese region and beyond.
