Federico García Lorca was born on June 5, 1899, in the village of Fuente Vaqueros, near Granada. His parents were old landowners in Andalusia and his paternal home was surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. This region of Spain differs from the rest of the country in terms of climate and fertile land. 

Federico García Lorca grew up in this environment. He always kept the climate and colors of this surroundings alive in his poetry, with its dances and songs, with its legends and traditions, with the memories of his first years of school. In the same folk tradition of Andalusia, his theater also has its roots. But Lorca is above all a singer. His biographers say that before printing his collections, he recited his poems as a kind of improvisation, like the troubadours of medieval times.
