Very interesting as an idea, but in practice it did not excite me particularly. The good things it has are its construction quality, which is simply excellent for its price. The map and newspapers included definitely put you in the mood of a detective mystery. The stories it contains are also captivating. However, the good things end here, as the answers to the mysteries are not the result of deduction that the player will make from the collected elements, but usually found in just one element, often in a detail of the text that only Sherlock Holmes himself would find. This is not accidental, as the game for some reason rewards the player with more points if they follow fewer clues, which doesn't make much sense in a game that you can't play again. It's as if the game itself wants you to engage with it as little as possible. Anyone who wants to play it can simply buy a mystery book and try to solve it while reading, the experience will be identical, entertaining but without the need to be in board game format.

  In the positives that everyone has more or less summarized:

  1. If you have the appetite for (a lot of) reading, it's just what you need.
  2. Quality construction.
  3. Detailed and well-crafted scenarios.
  4. There are fan-made scenarios on boardgamegeek, if you haven't thrown it away until you finish the 10 included ones.

  Now, the negatives, which are the most important.

  1. The testimonies are not related to each other. In (much better) Chronicles of Crime, for example, if you go to a witness at a specific time or with an additional element, they tell you different things. Here, that doesn't happen. Time doesn't matter, nor does the order in which you find the clues. The clues don't change over time.

  2. It's silly to waste time searching for addresses and/or buildings on a map. It's also silly to search for an index that someone should have given you in the book, with the name instead of the encoded address.

  3. Forget the theory of 90 minutes, it will take you hours.

  4. There are no clues about who you should see first, so Sherlock is always the winner. For example, in one scenario, you have a note about an embassy, but if you go there, you find nothing. However, you have no clue to NOT go there. My opinion is not to just look at the fewest clues, look at them all for the scenario. It's more interesting than trying in vain to beat Sherlock.

  5. Essentially, you have paid for 10 well-written scenarios. The illustrations don't matter either. The (heavy) box contains 10 scenario books, the rules, the frustrating index that you constantly search for, the newspapers, and the map, nothing else.

  6. I fully agree with the colleague who says that the game wrongly rewards those who engage with it less, since you won't play it again after the same scenario.

  In general, detective games like Cluedo, Chronicles of Crime, etc. are far better. Okay, it's good, but not for that much money and not for the value that many give it.

  This is an excellent game that makes you feel like a real detective! You visit locations, interrogate, search through newspapers, and in the end, you have to use your mind to combine all the elements... Wonderful experience!
  Now, onto the specifics:
  1. It is a very high-quality construction. A display tabletop game.
  2. The games last at least 90 minutes (depending on the case, it can be much longer).
  3. Ideal for 2 to a maximum of 4 players.
  4. The cases are solved once and the game is not replayable unless you pick it up again after a long time and have a weak memory.

  Definitely a fun game for people who enjoy reading and thinking. I would recommend it for small groups of 2-4 people at most, so you don't lose track of the story with too many scenarios. I don't think it's easy to replay because you remember the solutions after reading so much... at least I think so.

  As for the negatives, something is off with the translation into Greek and there are some unclear or incorrectly worded information. Also, regarding the solutions and Holmes' rating, he only answers the first few questions in the solution, so why should we deduct points if he didn't solve it?

Of course, each case takes about three hours, so make sure you have time, because we started the first two cases and then left it for a while due to lack of time.
  Some cases may confuse you, but if you don't rush and think logically (without superficiality as mentioned above), you will find them! Even if you "lose" to Sherlock who finds the solution in fewer moves (investigating evidence), the satisfaction is great!

  I decided to comment because I often see the game being recommended for 3 or more players, which simply isn't true. The game is ideal for 2-4 players, and according to boardgamegeek, the ideal number of players is two (which I agree with). It can even be played solo, although a large part of the fun is lost that way. On the other hand, with more than four people, it can easily become chaotic. If you're interested in buying it to play with two people, don't hesitate at all.

  The game is very different from the average board game and resembles, in a way, a much more fun (and freely structured) version of choose your own adventure books. The goal of the team is to cooperatively solve a case in as few steps as possible (i.e. visits to addresses), and ideally, earlier than Sherlock Holmes, the competitor, solves it. The choice of addresses that the team visits is mainly done:

  1. through clues gathered in previous visits (usually starting from the crime scene),
  2. through hints that informants can provide,
  3. through newspaper articles.

  The game involves a lot of reading, as each visit takes place as follows: the team agrees on the address they are going to visit, a team member opens the booklet, finds the address, and reads the text in the hope that the next clue to solving the crime is somewhere within the text.

  The game is a very good choice even for non-board game fans, and the only "problem" I can find is that there are very few similar games on the market, and as far as I know, none of the few that exist have been translated into Greek. According to Kaisa, a second Sherlock Holmes with 10 more cases is expected in January. For something different but with some common elements in terms of logic, if you are a group of four (or even three) with good knowledge of English, I would recommend T.I.M.E. Stories.

  The game is excellent with some minor flaws.
  First of all, it definitely requires a good number of players, but don't overdo it. There is no restriction set by the game, but I think that with more than 8 people, the gameplay becomes quite dysfunctional. Don't even attempt to play with less than 3, also.
  The game includes 10 cases, and here is the biggest drawback for me. Once you play the 10 cases, the game practically becomes useless (and it's not cheap either). Of course, don't think that each case can be solved in 20 minutes like in Cluedo, not at all.
  You all play together, starting by reading the narration of the story (one of the 10), and then you choose in turns which element to examine.
  It is incredibly well-crafted, its stories are very well-developed and realistic, which, however, takes a lot of time to complete. Personally, I don't mind it, in my opinion, it's suitable for you to gather with your friends for an evening at a house and play only this. It will take you about 4 hours to finish each case, each case has many elements, and before each element, it definitely takes time and the corresponding conversation to choose. Some elements are helpful, some not so much, some are misleading, some are empty. It's up to the players to evaluate the elements they receive and thus determine the direction of their investigation.
  You can stop collecting elements whenever you want, and then you have to answer some questions about the case, which you do not know in advance. It is assumed that the goal of the game is to beat Sherlock in how quickly you solve the case, but that is practically impossible. The general goal is to be able to answer as many questions as possible at the end of each case, having collected as few elements as possible.
  In conclusion, an excellently crafted game with flawless scenarios and top-quality construction. It cannot be "squeezed" into a game night, it needs a game night of its own, but personally, I like that more than it bothers me. By its nature, it is suitable for limited use, and this may make it impractical compared to other board games, but on the other hand, if you are a group of 5-6 people, it's nothing to spend around 6-7 euros each and buy 10 enjoyable evenings, if you like board games as much as I do.
  Overall, it's perfect, I highly recommend it. In England, there are a total of 4 editions with different stories, in Greece, Kaissa has now acquired the rights and translated the first one, so hurry up and buy it to support its sales and bring the rest as well!

  A unique game. It is not a traditional board game in the strict sense of the term, as it does not have pieces, a board, and dice. I could describe it as a storytelling - investigation - mystery game.

  It requires company to be played well (at least 3 people), a significant amount of available time, and corresponding disposition.

  You read a story and through the interrogation of various suspects, you learn new information. In this way, you try to solve a case (it has 10 cases).

  Expect it to take around 3 hours (give or take), and each case must be solved once and for all, as practically, it is a bit difficult to gather the same people again the next day for the continuation.

  Consider it one of the good ones in its genre, but it has specific requirements.
