Description
The two treatises of the sacred Chrysostom On the upbringing of children were not only useful in his time. The issue of education has always been very difficult. Most parents, while striving to secure the necessities for their children's lives, often more than that, neglect their upbringing. In the two treatises contained here, the sacred Chrysostom calls on parents to educate their children according to biblical examples and to endow them with the fear of God, which is a true wealth and treasure for life. He also provides guidance on many issues, convincing every well-intentioned person of the correctness of his suggestions. His reference to vanity is justified by the fact that he considers it the cause of poor upbringing, and to charity by the fact that its practice presupposes not wealth but good intention, which is the fruit of proper upbringing.
