The plot of the game takes us back to 1998, in the fictional Racoon City, two months after the Zombie Apocalypse (as it occurred in the prequel Resident Evil, 1996).
At a gas station outside the city, Leon and Claire, two survivors of the apocalypse, try to unite their purposes and escape from the zombies and monsters created by the laboratory T-Virus of the evil pharmaceutical company Umbrella.
The rookie police officer and the student, after escaping from the gas station, set the city's police station as their meeting point, unaware that it has become a den of zombies. Arriving there at different times, the zombies prevent them from meeting, and thus begins to unfold the thread of a particularly terrifying and chilling story, different for each of the two protagonists.

The best remake so far. The re 4 remake seems like a joke compared to the complete re2 remake. The effort they made to stay as faithful as possible to the classic game, providing us with a modern, exciting experience without unnecessarily cutting content, makes this game a STANDARD in the world of remakes. The only negative: lack of a strong soundtrack. Solution: purchase the old one from the online store as DLC and add it.

I give it 4 stars only because it had 1-2 puzzles that were really brain teasers and... it ruins the game until you find them!! Luckily, there is YouTube!! Didn't think about it at all...!! Very nice game!!
Simply a great game, especially considering the price you can find it for now. I highly recommend it to everyone.
The game is very good in terms of technical aspects, sound, and storytelling. Overall, it has nothing negative; it is very well-crafted and carefully remade, just as we have come to expect from Capcom since Resident Evil 7 and onwards. The only negative thing I found in the story and scenario is that while I played the story with Leon at the beginning, I decided to see Claire's story afterwards because the game itself tells you that if you play it a second time with a different character, you will see different scenes, which is indeed true. However, it is unrealistic for the exact same moments to happen with just a role swap, especially in the beginning (gas station). I would have liked to see what I saw in Leon's story with Claire, where she appears, but until she appears before and after her trial, her side of the story lacks good coherence with Leon's.
What can someone say about Resident Evil? A very nice horror game. Nice story, tremendous atmosphere throughout. Perhaps my favorite from the series!

I have to say that I haven't played the original game on the PS1, only on the PS4 Pro.
Overall, the game is awesome and has everything, graphics, atmosphere, sound.
I won't spoil anything, I'll just say that if you like horror action, you will spend many hours with it.
I have played almost everything from Resident Evil, and I rank this one in third place. The first is RE4 and the second is RE7 (which is more horror and less action). But this is just my opinion.
And finally, considering the price, it is a must-have for your collection.
Fantastic horror experience! I hadn't experienced it in years and I was thrilled! The lack of ammunition is enough to make you tremble! I would press pause to calm down and lower my heart rate. I would get up sweaty!
I highly recommend it, regardless of whether you have played the old one. It may be small, but it's good.

For the period of 2021, it doesn't make sense to engage unless you don't mind playing with outdated graphics.
Although the game was remastered, it still failed to win me over due to its outdated graphics.

Personally, one of the worst and most boring games I have played. You don't enjoy it, the story is very mediocre, you play and you don't understand the meaning of the game. Many puzzles, even in things that I don't think are necessary. Many maps. The whole situation is tiring, in the same places over and over again. Unfortunately, they have only focused on the graphics.
The 2 stars only for the remake and not for the original that I played and we played in the past. I didn't miss at all the back-and-forth of RE2, not at all. On the contrary, after so many years and the evolution of games, I found it quite annoying. Now I found this key or code and I have to go back to open the door or the locked box/drawer, etc. It was different back then, different times, different philosophy of games. Back then, it was a masterpiece and I shouldn't have played it again in the PS4 version. It's like remaking the first Tomb Raider or AC 1. I would prefer a new RE2 and not a remake, which I believe hides elements of profit-making. On the other hand, it is third person and not like RE7 which they made into first person... they should also make first person games into third person to see how companies will profit or how much fans will like it, like CoD, Far Cry, etc. And just because it's third person, it's worth it for new players to experience one of the best games ever released! For us old players, I believe some things should remain exactly as we experienced them, with all the emotions, the suspense, and the "clumsy controls" (e.g. RE4). I demythologized RE2 by playing it again, both in my eyes and in the eyes of those I advertised it to, showing them how we lived in the golden age of gaming and played amazing games!
First of all, I have to say that unlike most people here, I haven't played the original, so I'm not able to compare them. The only game I had played before this one was the 7th. The game is excellent in its genre, dark and scary as it should be, but not excessively. The puzzles are quite clever and make you use even the smallest clue you find, and with a little searching, you can solve them all on your own without needing any guide's help. Personally, this type of continuous puzzle gameplay tires me a bit, but that doesn't mean it's something negative about the game. The only negative thing I have to say is that to unlock the true ending, you need to do the 2nd run, which unfortunately is almost identical to the 1st, just with a different character, while I would have expected it to be quite different. If someone has played Nier Automata or any other game where in the 2nd run you play the same story but from the perspective of another character, they will understand exactly what I mean. Overall, though, it is definitely very well-made and especially at the price it is currently at, it is worth more than its money.
The Resident Evil 2 remake was my first contact with the world of Resident Evil. After hearing good things from players who had played the game when it was initially released many years ago, and after seeing the nice footage myself, I decided to buy it.
Initially, you are given the option to choose whether to play as Leon or Claire. Each character starts from a different point and with different equipment. To see the "true" ending, you must complete the game with both characters, which is not difficult as the game is not long in duration. The story of the game is satisfactory, with several cringe-worthy scenes, for example, one character asking the other about the weather while being chased by many zombies. In the game, there is a logic of taking an item from point A and bringing it to point B, but as you make this journey, something will go wrong. Worth mentioning is the very good level design that connects many areas of the game in an exemplary way. The shooting is quite good and convenient, although there is room for improvement. In boss fights, because there is no dodge (added in the RE3 remake), the battle becomes more difficult and reminiscent of the age of the game. In the technical aspect, excellent work has been done, the graphics have been elevated, as well as the sound. For those who are not fans of horror, it is worth giving it a chance because the game is not scary but rather suspenseful, with a mysterious atmosphere that I admit I liked.
Overall, the Resident Evil 2 remake is one of the top experiences of the generation that is worth investing your time in, especially at this price. Forget the doubts you may have and give the game a chance. Welcome to Raccoon City!
A perfect Resident Evil. A perfect horror game that was remade correctly and with passion, and not half-heartedly like the Prince of Persia remake. It is the Resident Evil that someone should play first if they want to start the Resident Evil series. Two excellent characters that you become attached to, with incredible voice acting and their acting is unbelievable. Take it without hesitation.
Stable value for genre lovers, endless hours of Resident Evil 1 on PlayStation 1, the entire series beloved except for 6 which is mediocre.

Being a fan of the Resident Evil series and having played the original titles countless times on the PS1, I can confidently say that this game is the best I have ever played when it comes to Resident Evil. Top-notch graphics and gameplay, sound, and story. One positive aspect compared to the original that was released back in 1998 is that the game's duration is now longer. I highly recommend it to both old and new fans of the series, and not only.

I am of the generation that played the original RE2 on PS1 and of course I still have it. For me, the original RE2 is the best in the Resident Evil series. It was groundbreaking at the time. In two discs in 1998, with the trick depending on which disc you put first, you would play with the corresponding character and of course experience the captivating terror it offered.
Someone might say that this is a review for the remake and what am I saying about the old game...
I am making this introduction to conclude that Capcom managed to create a remake that is if not better, equal to the original title!
And of course, I am not talking about the technical aspect but about the atmosphere, the terror, and all the emotions that this title offered. Truly fantastic atmosphere.
The horror element, just as Capcom presented it back then, and perhaps even created the genre (survival horror) of these games!
It doesn't scare you with jump scares and "cheap" tricks, but it constantly keeps you on edge in its own unique way.
This particular game should be shown to developers as an example of how to make the perfect remake of a perfect game!
On normal difficulty, it's not too demanding but not easy either...
Playing the two scenarios with the two characters will definitely take you 15-20 hours.
At the price it has now, for me, every PS4 owner should get it and play it.
For those who have played the old one, it's a must, but it's also a flawless overall game that someone can play as their first RE title...
and then they will likely seek out the others!!!
I bought it as a kid and worked for 12 days to get it for 24,000 drachmas. It came with 2 discs, one for Leon and one for Claire. Well, this remake (in our case) is an amazing game and worthy of the original. Everything I remember is improved perfectly and some parts have been made better. I definitely finished it ten times. And I got platinum. You can't get enough of it. It also has mini-games that are equally special. I recommend you to see it.
I give it 4 stars because it is small and it needs to run a little longer. Also, I didn't like that at first you spend a lot of time inside the police station. Everything else is very good.
It is worth it for both someone who has played the original and someone who wants to start the Resident Evil series. It remains faithful to the original while upgrading where necessary in the technical department.
I don't think there's anything I can say that hasn't already been written about the game. It's a masterpiece, worthy of its title of '98!

It couldn't be better. Capcom created a game that from beginning to end was like the original, with better graphics. The game didn't come out to attract a new audience, but for us old fans who wanted to relive the nostalgia. I don't want to hear from some people that it doesn't have much action and has too many puzzles or few ammunition and such silly things. It clearly says survival horror. That's the genre and whoever likes it. Bravo, well done.

As a gameplay, it is very nice! Easy handling, all the weapons in your hands without needing to constantly open and close the inventory! In some parts, it is particularly dark for no reason. I really like that when you hit a head, the damage is there, when you hit an arm, it gets severed, along with bleeding. Really great work in terms of graphics and background!
I didn't like at all that the scenarios of Leon A & Leon B, as well as Claire A & Claire B, are the same! They just start from a different point, like the original Resident Evil 2, but then it's the same! Also, the scenarios are very similar between the characters... Claire goes into some rooms and Leon goes into others.
There are more areas, the police department is three times bigger than the old one, and also the underground facilities, so there is a lot of exploration! There are plenty of weapons and plenty of ammunition, depending on which weapon you use the most, you can craft more of its ammo!! Plus, you get to enjoy shooting zombies.
The enemies are many and stronger, a zombie can fall after five shots and a little later you see it standing in front of you! The Lickers are very fast and relatively strong, even though they are blind, they can hear your footsteps and attack from a distance with one move! The boss (Sheryl's father) is fought in all the stages of his development and growth, relatively easy and not too challenging, you just need good aim at key points. The Tyrant is unbeatable, no weapon can bring him down, you just delay him when you fight him.
Claire's scenario is much easier than Leon's because Tyrant doesn't follow you everywhere. It also has several bonus games that are very interesting if you complete all the scenarios.
Overall, it's a nice game, you don't waste money, especially in the current times. I would rate it 8/10, and it only loses points in terms of scenarios for me!

I can't wait to play it, having grown up with all the Resident Evil games in my early gaming years, only to realize that it crashes the console (PS4 Pro) after the intro video. I tried everything, turning it off and reinstalling, restoring the database, using a used disc with the game, and the result is the same. Nothing! And the same game, tested on another PS4 Pro console, plays normally. I even took the console for repair at a well-known store chain and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, as the more than 10 games that were installed played normally! I know this is not a game review and I apologize, but anyone who has encountered something similar and can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
I really expected it, how can I say it, the game I have played almost all the Resident Evil games except for the old ones on the PS1... I was really disappointed with its gameplay!! Definitely well-written, nice horror survivor game with perfect atmosphere. Let's move on to its negatives now. The game lacks variety in enemies, zombies, bosses, it only has one and you fight it over and over again. It also has excessively many puzzles, every 5-10 minutes you have to be on YouTube to see how to solve these illogical puzzles. No, I do not recommend it, especially for the price it is! 6/10 rating
