The files of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveal that George II had chosen Ioannis Metaxas, despite his pro-German stance, because he knew he would have him under his control. He could replace him at any moment. For a long time, Metaxas feared that George II would remove him. He sought support from the National Youth Organization on which he could rely, no matter what happened. Furthermore, he continued to fear even in 1939, even in 1940, that England would overthrow him. Throughout his life, Ioannis Metaxas was a true patriot, and the injustice committed against him is characteristic of the low moral and intellectual level of many Greek intellectuals who fill the void of their thinking with cheap partisan positions.
