However, it is imperative to emphasize that the words of Saint Porphyrios express, in certain cases, specific personal advice, which would be a grave mistake to apply universally. It is like the medicine given by the wise doctor individually, according to the patient and the illness. Therefore, we could say that his words provide us with a general spiritual framework within which we can discover our own situation and, with prayer and appropriate spiritual guidance, proceed spiritually.
