I have had it for about 5 years. I have written and deleted many files (photos, videos, games). I am satisfied so far.

Overall, I have many disks for backup use. I had two of this particular one. Both of them were simply used as file storage without being powered on. I would plug them in once every 1-2 months at most, just to transfer a few files. I followed the same process with many other disks. The two WD Black disks failed within a few months. At the same time, some WD Green and Blue disks that I had already been using for 2 years before the Black ones, with the exact same usage, are still functioning today.
I had bought the first one in 2013 and after two years it broke and was replaced with a new one. Since then, it hasn't stopped working on a daily basis for gaming, video and photo editing, and transferring data with the necessary hard daily use, and it doesn't understand anything.
It is definitely expensive by today's standards, but with a five-year warranty, it is definitely a good investment.
Update 10/2023
It continues to work flawlessly, mainly for gaming.
8 years of continuous operation so far
The best choice for purchasing a mechanical hard drive! Both the reliability of WD and the black series are top-notch! The black series, although more expensive, is the best option for mechanical drives. It operates as expected, making no noise, and if it does, it certainly doesn't make more noise than the computer fans, and I have an almost silent PC.
It was purchased 6 years ago (2014). It is the best choice for an HDD. Fast with a large cache. But the terrible thing creaks. It vibrates like a mobile phone. From the first day, everything is out of sync. And I have a box with rubber pads on the bases of the hard drives. The vibrations transfer to the table that the box sits on, resulting in the house having a low-frequency hum. It's pure madness!
I give it 4 stars because I assume that if I bothered to return it, they would replace it for me. Otherwise, it would be 1 star, and that's being generous.
Anyway, the hard drive remains... in a custom position that I made for it in the 5 1/4 drive bays of the case, suspended by strings. Essentially, it hangs... and it's now almost silent.
The laziness of transferring 1TB of files for replacement was paid for...
So if you have any suspicion that yours creaks, send it back without a second thought.
Awesome disk with one serious drawback, it makes a lot of noise and vibration.... the desk on top of the case really feels the vibration and when the disk is working you can hear it
DOA.. it gave me an I/O device error. I changed all the cables, changed the account in Windows 10, but nothing of course, it came poorly packaged, so it's very likely that the seller is responsible. But how is it possible for WD to sell a premium material in just an anti-static bag?
+Fast disk for storage.
-It has a problem with a ticking sound every approximately 10 seconds, which according to online research seems to exist in many WD4005FZBX models if not all. The vibration from the sound passes through antivibration pads and is amplified by the metallic parts of the case (tested on fulltower Cosmos PureBlack and P400s with the same result). In a private residential space (meaning without noise), it is impossible not to hear it.
I was denied its replacement as faulty (I returned it immediately on the first day). I have necessarily placed it in bubble wrap on the floor of the case to prevent it from being heard, as the main sound is "drowned out" by the sound of the (silent 500-600rpm) fans of the insulated case (P400s).
Fast, reliable, and with a 5-year warranty. WARNING: the disk head makes a periodic movement every approximately 5 seconds. When the disk touches the casing (like in most builds), this "hit" of the head is transferred to the metal and produces an annoying - for me - sound, especially if the rest of your PC is silent. It is not a defect, that's how it works (WD states that it helps the disk last longer). In an office or while gaming/working with headphones, it is not audible. But during late-night browsing or programming, things become difficult... Otherwise, the noise it makes when it's working is normal.
Unfortunately, in a shorter period of time than a year, his health reached 9% with several thousand destroyed sectors, I am a professional and I do not risk for any reason because of my files! for me, this company (died).
2. I contacted the store where I bought it and I am waiting for an answer, I should note that I have never heard of any incident regarding this company unlike Seagate, where I have heard at least 5 incidents.
WD Black, one of the most reliable hard drives with satisfactory speeds, operates at a low temperature, depending on the case of course. In a coolermaster haf 932, it barely reaches 27 to 30 degrees. It has a very good warranty, 5 years. It has been problem-free for 3 years now. As for the noise, yes, it exists, but as we said, the pros outweigh the noise.
Excellent hard drive and its speeds are remarkable for an HDD. I have had it for 4 years and it has served me well, and I don't think it will stop anytime soon.
Unfortunately, it does not work on Windows 7, it only accepts up to 2 TB. I upgraded to Windows 10 and now it supports up to 6 TB! In fact, it is 5540 TB, one of the best in its category, made in Thailand! It comes with a 5-year warranty!
Quite good and fast hard disk. You could say it's silent as it makes minimal noise in specific tasks.
I have had it since 2014 and it works without any issues. I heavily use the PC with constant file transfers and demanding programs/games, and although it may not compare in terms of speed to an SSD, it has overall left me very satisfied.
However, even though this is what everyone needs, in 2014 when I bought it, the 500GB seemed fine, but now with games that require 40-60GB each, it seems small. Personally, I would recommend anyone considering buying this to spend a little more and go for the 1TB, which will last longer.
It handles temperatures well and produces minimal noise. It also comes with a 5-year warranty, like all Black drives.
Awesome product worth the money it costs. It has been working for [5] years in a gaming system initially as a primary disk for 3.5 years and the last year as a storage device. Nice and fast for an HDD. It never had any issues.
Undoubtedly one of the top series of discs worldwide.
Certainly more expensive than other series, however, quiet, fast, reliable, and with a 5-year warranty.
Good speeds and quiet, however after 3 years of operation as a secondary disk in the system, it started freezing and after running the usual diagnostics, I saw that its health is at 12%. At least when it fails, I will still be under warranty...
Guys, the disk simply doesn't exist. I've had it for about 3 years for sure. When I got it, I still had a socket 775 system. In February, I upgraded to a socket 1150 PC, where I left it as a secondary drive only for capacity, installing a Patriot Spark 128GB SSD. The SSD, after just 8.5 months of use and a total of 94 hours, went crazy, making weird noises and the worst part is that my technician has it and is trying to fix it without any success, at least 3 times. The Patriot showed 80% performance in such a short period of time. Inevitably, I went back to the BLACK. Even though at the moment, besides the operating system and 5-6 basic programs, the disk is empty, it still keeps spinning. It has truly incredible response times for a mechanical disk, and the absence of the SSD is not noticeable. However, what is amazing is that in the measurement, it showed 100% in everything, which after 3 years, regardless of whether it endured a lot of pressure or not, is an achievement in itself
I have it since 2010 and it still works like a charm.
One of the fastest and most reliable hard drives on the market.
The only downside is that now 1tb is not enough for anything, so I have to go for a bigger one
I was torn between him and the Seagate Barracuda. The price difference was significant, so I went with the latter. However, it broke down after 2 months, so I sent it for RMA and got the Black instead. It's quiet, fast, and without vibrations. I gave it 4 stars only because of the price. That's all from me, happy shopping.
Having 1 year in my possession, I can say that I am very satisfied. The use I make is Gaming and Video editing but also a lot of downloading with a lot of read-write. It endures a lot, it is quite fast in its category and with temperatures below 30 degrees and silent!
Before I bought the disc, I was reading various reviews about discs of this category. I quickly ended up with this one because it had the best reviews compared to other brands and models. Within a year of regular everyday use, it stopped working. I'm sure it didn't suffer any physical damage because I am the only one using the computer, so I can't explain why it failed so quickly. I hope I am one of the few, but personally, I wouldn't buy this one again.
I have him only for a few days but I can say that he is extremely fast (especially for a hard disk), quiet and so far he has not presented any problems. If you are looking for a hard disk, then do not be afraid to spend an extra 15-20 euros for it, it's worth it.
I have had it for 2 years, always full and after many formats its health is 100%.
Fast and with many years of warranty. The most reliable thing out there.
I would buy it again/10
I have had it for 2 years already, with plenty of use and it has not shown the slightest problem.
In my system, it is used as a second hard drive for installing all high-volume games and applications, which are frequently used.
I have also installed it in a special case to reduce vibrations, which makes it even quieter. Flawless, without any issues.
[11/21/2022] Update: After 7 years, it gave up the ghost :)
