No, not a single problem.
It came out of the box, connected to the computer with Windows 10 using its cable, and since then I have forgotten that it exists. I never had any disconnection, lag, or anything. The computer works 18 hours a day, every day, whether it's for transferring files, downloading, or gaming.
Also, it works out of the box with Raspberry Pi.
At first, it was installed with Windows 10 and kept disconnecting constantly. Now I have installed its own drivers. I will test it and come back for a new evaluation.
I'm coming back to give it one star, it's a waste of money, don't buy it. Even with its own drivers, it keeps disconnecting. I go into the settings, run diagnostics, and it reconnects. After a while, it disconnects again.
On 2/17/21, after some searching, I am coming back again.
The problem was found. The router had automatically selected channel 11 to broadcast on. For some reason, the wn822 doesn't work well on that specific channel. That's why I'm giving it 3 stars. I changed the channel to 5 and it works perfectly. Others should do the same and let us know if it's fixed.
On 4/18/21, I'm back again, changing my evaluation. Guys, I can't figure it out, it started disconnecting again. I don't know if it's the device, the Windows, or the router. If someone who has the same problem found a solution, please let us know.
On 7/21/21, it ended up in the closet. I got another Chinese brand called "koukouroukou" without drivers and without an external antenna, and it works perfectly. What can I say...
Regarding this specific product, I have to say that unfortunately, it is not worth the money after 1.5 years of use. At first, let's say it worked. For the last 2 months, I open the computer and it takes more than 10 minutes for me to connect to the network. If the computer goes into sleep mode, it needs a restart to reconnect. I changed the port on the computer to see if that was the issue, and I also tried it on another computer. All of this with the router in the same space... what a shame...
Just garbage, not worth even 15 euros. On a 200mbps line, it gets 30 and not 300 as it claims, and there is a 5-meter distance with an intermediate wall!! Nothing, just don't buy it, wasted money!! Better to get a Powerlink even if it's more expensive
It doesn't reach more than 50mbps on a 100mbps line, but in terms of reliability not disconnecting, it hasn't disappointed me for almost 10 years. I've replaced it with a more modern one, but I still keep it just in case.
Edit: Eventually, it reaches 100 mbps from the router. There was some issue with the 2.4g, I fixed it and it works perfectly
Useful product, it has very few disconnections in a week. I have it 2 rooms away from the router and there is minimal loss in speed compared to the wired connection.
Well, I have it for a while now and I can say that it is fast, has a very good range but unfortunately it disconnects very often to the point of annoying you, I had an older model with a single antenna and it is much better and more reliable.. I did not expect this from this particular company..
For the garbage.
I have it for about five years and it has driven me crazy. It is flawless in disconnecting and malfunctioning.
What drivers I have installed, what I have done to pamper it so that nothing flows. Basically the worst
I have this specific antenna for over 5 years and it is flawless. Occasionally, there are some disconnections, but overall it is very reliable! Is there a possibility for a new one to better meet your needs?
I don't know what's going on with this, but when it works, it's fine for its price.
The issue is that when I used it with Windows 7, it was a beast, it couldn't understand anything. After a while, when I upgraded to Windows 10 and tried all the drivers, it would lose signal all the time. I tried it on 2 systems with every driver I could find (from the disk, Windows update, and the tp-link website) and now it's somewhat stable, hence the 2 stars. But whenever it feels like it, it loses connection and you have to disconnect and reconnect it.
Yesterday, I had another USB drive just sitting there (not transferring or reading any files) and it couldn't reach more than a few Kbps download speed... I removed the drive and it went back to normal.
I don't know what's going on with this, I'm tired. TP-Link hasn't released Windows drivers for v5 since 2018, but they still sell it and obviously it has compatibility issues with some systems.
Try to avoid it and get the v6 version that still receives updates.
Good value for money, good range and easy installation, unfortunately the connection is lost from time to time and you have to re-enter the wifi password.
There is no better option for the 2.4GHz band at this price range. In a room with a distance of 5m from the router, with a wall in between, and a 100Mbps fiber optic connection, it reaches 75Mbps without any disconnections. If you want full speed, you should consider the 5GHz band
Perhaps the worst purchase I have ever made in my life... I put it in a Dell desktop that was only 2 days old, with Windows 10... It constantly causes crashes and freezing on the computer... Stay away... I removed it and finally found peace.
Well guys, it's a must! The adapter is the best! In a 50 Mbps line, not even with optical fiber, with a distance of 15 meters from the router and with 3 ports in between, it reaches 48.6 download, 4.96 upload. It doesn't freeze anywhere and in anything! Imagine, I play Call of Duty online and it doesn't lag. Disconnections? Forget about them! Prefer the v6 version and also install the drivers!
Completely useless in 100 words and distance, it doesn't even catch a signal within 5 meters, while on my phone I get a steady 95. This doesn't catch anything, just a waste of money, not to mention it also disconnects
Excellent!
It caught 96 nailed in a 100 network.
In another network that was 25 meters away and 3 walls in between, it caught 6mbps!
It also finds networks of stores and houses that are 60 meters away!
In Windows 10, you don't need anything. You just plug it in and it works.
It has some issues...the drivers for Linux require extensive searching and you need to know even the chipset it uses...in Windows 10, it runs everything smoothly...you go to the website and download them. Signal strength is 60 percent at a distance of 15 meters...it is not good because of a door and a wall. Now, it will frustrate you with the monitor mode. It says it's connected, but it's not...the antenna is cheap...works great on Windows 10 but a headache on Linux. It claims to be in monitor mode but it's not actually connected.
Better performance on Linux (debian/ubuntu-based) than on Windows 10, where it has slightly lower speed and experiences interruptions in its operation regardless of the driver I tried. However, installing drivers on Linux is not exactly easy. Recent kernels include generic drivers for the realtek chipset family, on which the tplink adapter is based, but they do not work with this specific device. The drivers from the tplink website are outdated. You will need the following commands from the terminal (for debian/ubuntu-based distributions):
(installation from source, blacklisting the previous driver, system reboot - the driver will be loaded with every new kernel installation thanks to dkms)
The LED does not work, but to be honest, I find it annoying.
I wanted it to provide internet to my desktop computer from my mobile. It connected immediately. It maintains a stable connection without interruptions and it is quite fast.
Stay away from this wi-fi adapter, for God's sake. It requires unplugging and plugging back in most of the time after Windows restarts in order to work. Terrible range and frequent disconnections. Waste of money. There are good and reliable adapters from the same company that have been tested for years
Most of it has been said by the previous speakers..
Decent usb wifi adapter in n protocol..
Generally, at a relatively short distance (2 rooms away) from the router, it locked at 300mbps with an actual speed of 8-9MB/sec, so it covers all internet lines below 100Mbps.
I bought 2 because I lost the first one. The first one worked perfectly as long as I had it. The second one has been driving me crazy. First of all, let me start by saying that I have a 50mbps connection, on my phone I get 35mbps, and this one doesn't go above 20mbps. Apart from that, after about 2 months, it started constantly freezing with spikes in games, making them unplayable. I had to unplug it and plug it back in to restart the driver, and for about 15 minutes (let's be generous), it might have been okay. Finally, I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, and the situation improved somewhat. The speed didn't change, it's still below 20mbps, but at least the spikes decreased and the driver doesn't crash anymore.
For those who are interested and have similar problems with disconnections, spikes, etc., my version was 5.2 and I downloaded the driver TL-WN822N(EU)_V5_181022_Win from here:
https://www.tp-link.com/gr/support/download/tl-wn822n/v5/
It's better to get one with a PCI connection. It's a bit more difficult to install, but an old one I had on another computer never gave me any problems.
Update after a while:
For those who are interested in installing it on a system with Ubuntu 20.04, the speed with the pre-installed Ubuntu driver is very limited and the driver provided by TP-Link doesn't work properly. In this GitHub repository:
https://github.com/Mange/rtl8192eu-linux-driver
there is a driver with detailed instructions for installation that worked perfectly for me, and the speed went from about 5mbps to 35mbps. Anyone who is going to install it on Ubuntu 20.04 has nothing to lose by installing it in 5 minutes.
I have it for 2 years and something, for the price it has it is quite satisfactory, but as it is logical at 10 euros obviously it will lose somewhere. I read in some reviews that it disconnects very often especially when downloading large files and that it has a high ping. However, this is solved if you download the drivers. Specifically, in cs go it has a stable 70-80 ping and if I play YouTube in the background it goes up to a stable 90. It also disconnects relatively rarely and has no issues with large files (I have downloaded 7 games which on average are 40 to 50 GB each). The only "problem" it gave me is that sometimes when I open the computer from sleep mode for some reason it doesn't turn on and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. 9/10 for 10 euros.
The fact that it works plug and play doesn't mean you leave it like that.
Download the official drivers from their official website and you will see a big difference both in disconnections and download capability.
His job is clearly only for browsing.. YouTube, Netflix, fb, insta, etc..
If you try to download something big, 5GB and above, the disconnections will start and you will have to open and close it..
In games, it has a lot of ms like for example in lol, it stays stable at 100-120 and every 10 seconds it goes up to 300+ without running anything else in the background (YouTube, Spotify, etc) forget about those..
The lack of 5ghz is a big downside, although I don't think it would change much.
On the positive side, it is easy to install.
It comes with a long cable that you can place wherever you want for "good signal".
The purchase was made quickly because the laptop's WiFi card broke, not because of the WiFi range.
The only problem is that sometimes it gets stuck and you have to unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to get it unstuck. After years of use, I have to say that you shouldn't connect it with a USB extension because then the sticking is 10 times worse.
Very good range.. It loses quite a bit naturally.. on a 100mbps connection.. which reaches with ethernet Download 90mbps.. With TP-LINK it goes to 50mbps without obstacles.. distance of 4 meters straight..
Its negative is that sometimes it freezes and you have to quickly connect and disconnect it if it gets stuck and there is no internet.
