Reviews

  • Positives:
    - Easy automatic backup of mobile photos through a related app (files are unorganized, without folders)

    Negatives:
    - WD has started to cut down one by one all the advantages of the drive, such as being able to see it as a network drive even outside the home, they cut other supporting applications, etc.
    - VERY POOR management software. It doesn't even allow you to see folder sizes. You have to search a lot to even understand how to make multiple folder selections (e.g., for moving).
    - The user "hit" and my files are only accessible through a browser. I read that others have experienced this too, and essentially I have to "SIMPLY" transfer my 7TB of data somewhere else to safely restore it. Brilliant.
    - It constantly loses the external drive I connected to retrieve my files. I say this with LITTLE reservation because I haven't tested many, but this specific one has minimal use and seamless connection to another NAS/PC.

Overall, in the end, I switched to Synology and feel like I've found paradise. Cultural (pleasant) shock. It's like day and night. Never again WD NAS solution.

It could be a little more affordable on average, it does its job as the previous speakers said, but it's not suitable for inexperienced users. Of course, it doesn't mention anywhere to protect them from buying it

Excellent product. It was recommended to me by a friend and so far I am happy that I bought it.
I have had it for only 2 weeks. For now, everything is working great. If there are any changes, I will make the necessary updates.
I can say that it is very easy to install. Just connect it to the router, download the app, create a profile, and then connect from any device: phone, tablet, computer. All of this in 5 minutes!!
    Once connected, it automatically synchronizes.
I also use it for my work where I have backed up all the files in my office. With 8TB, there is plenty of space without any problems

  • I was disappointed with its interface and couldn't do what I wanted to do... That was at the beginning... until I found its Public side (folder) and have been using it flawlessly for 2 years on my home network from any computer, box player, etc. By adding the infuse application (on macOS), you elevate the disk's function as a Home Cinema.

Because some customers found it almost useless(!), I will inform you that the product is not plug and play only, kids!! You need to use your little brain a bit... Otherwise, go for a My Passport disk.... It's not such a product! It has many capabilities for an external disk!! I have been using it for about a year now, it's quiet, and it's relatively fast for watching movies (I also have the app on my phone and it automatically backs up everything!) You need to have time to deal with it, the PC app works perfectly! The only issue it has is transferring movies over 10GB, which takes about 15 minutes to transfer from the PC. That's it, guys, for the money, it's perfect for home use...

The worst of its kind, unfortunately. WD did it again. Those of us who fell for it will only be able to use the disk after removing it from the unacceptable interface (board) and formatting it. It doesn't even allow you to handle the basics. It's like you have it rented!

Unacceptable product. Impossible to use smoothly in a small network. Even its simple use on a personal computer is not direct, but requires registration to services and running WD software.

The first one I bought started making noise after the third day, like boiling eggs. It was so loud that it could be heard throughout the house at night. Eventually, it stopped working altogether. After a month and a half, they replaced it for me, but the second one has already started making the same noise again. I don't know if it will last... I do not recommend this specific NAS.
