The PLA filament is available in many shades and different types from the Real brand. The PLA (polylactic acid) filament is one of the oldest and still one of the most commonly used materials in the 3D printing community, mainly due to its advantages as a versatile and environmentally friendly thermoplastic. It is organic and biodegradable and can be easily combined with other components to affect its final properties, such as flexibility and metallic appearance.

The colorless form of Real PLA has a translucent off-white color and has a printing temperature between 195 - 205 degrees (depending on the characteristics of the hot end). The darker shades of Real may require a few extra degrees of temperature due to the coloring process. The filament should extrude smoothly and appear slightly glossy.

PLA is denser and more durable than ABS, but it is more brittle and sensitive to cracks under high loads. It is also less resistant to external weather conditions (UV light and water) compared to other common thermoplastics (such as Nylon, ABS, and PETG). PLA can print well on a non-heated surface using Blue Painters or Kapton tape, as well as most self-adhesive 3D printing labels.

For convenience and comfort, it is recommended to use sprays such as 3DLAC on a glass surface. A low bed temperature between 50 - 60 degrees further reduces the chance of warping and makes it easier to remove the final printed product once the print surface has cooled.
