It only broke once when it fell on a tile, but it broke into 2 pieces, not a big damage. Its case was and remains cardboard and it deteriorates quickly. I have to tape it all around to make it plastic and durable

However, for personal use, I have been exclusively using glass files for many years as they do not damage the nails. They do not "split" them. Even those that are somewhat more sensitive and my own nails grow very quickly, resulting in the need for frequent filing. I also recommend it for children.
